Community Health & Recreational Facility at Leafair Playing Pitches Derry.
I had an opportunity in the last week to visit Leafair Community Association’s latest development at the Leafair playing pitches which is currently close to completion.
I had initially been introduced to Leafair Community Association 60A Leafair Park BT48 8JT in 2011 when I was invited to look at improvements to the existing changing facilities which had serve the area well but needed a major face lift.
It was quickly determined that it was not economically viable to repair the existing facilities and we began preliminary sketches for a new 900m2 multi functional building with a focus on community health & recreation.
Planning Permission based on the attached photographs was achieved in 2012 but despite assurances the delivery of the financial support was slow , Leafair Community Association redoubled their efforts.
In 2017 the £1.2m was secured and in July 2018 Dungannon Contractors Connolly & Fee began construction works under the direction of Hamilton Architects Belfast .
The contractors have stated that the new building will serve as a fantastic facility for the local community providing administration space, meeting rooms, multi-functional rooms, catering and sports changing facilities.
