๐Ÿก THE OLD STABLES โ€“ TAKING SHAPE ๐Ÿก

It's always exciting when a project starts making the transition from a construction site into a home.

Over at The Old Stables, that transformation is happening right before our eyes.

Over the past few weeks the team have been pushing forward on multiple fronts. Internally, the plastering works are progressing well and the rooms are finally beginning to show their true shape and character. The vaulted ceilings, feature roof lights and large openings are now flooded with natural light, giving a glimpse of what this beautiful conversion will soon become.

Every project has those moments where you walk through the door and suddenly think...

"Yes, I can see it now."

I think we've reached that point.

Outside, work continues on the external timber detailing and cladding. As with many older buildings, there is no such thing as a standard detail. Every junction, every corner and every interface has to be carefully considered to ensure the finished product not only looks right but performs exactly as it should.

What I love about projects like this is the balance between old and new.

Retaining the character of the original building while introducing modern construction methods, insulation standards, services and finishes is no easy task, but when it all starts coming together, it's incredibly rewarding to see.

The latest plastered finishes have completely changed the feel of the internal spaces, softening the rooms and allowing the natural light from the roof lights and windows to bounce throughout the building.

Although I do have one concern...

I've always encouraged the team to take their allocated breaks, sit down, have a brew and have a laugh together.

But I think the piano may be taking things a little too far! ๐ŸŽน๐Ÿ˜‚

The piano has actually been on site since the very beginning of the project, quietly sitting in the corner while all the construction work has been going on around it.

For months nobody has really paid it much attention.

Then again...

Perhaps that's because nobody wanted to encourage Pip.

As many of you now know, Pip is a musician and, after this week's tea cup incident, has officially earned the title of "The Mad Hatter." ๐ŸŽฉโ˜•

So now I'm starting to wonder if the piano has been part of his master plan all along.

One minute he's fitting timber cladding.

The next he's halfway through a rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody while the rest of the team are supposed to be on their tea break. ๐ŸŽน๐Ÿ˜‚

Fortunately, no concerts have been reported so far...

But we'll be keeping a close eye on him.

All jokes aside, it's fantastic to see the building starting to come alive. Seeing the original character of the old stables sitting alongside the new works is exactly what makes projects like this so rewarding.

There is still plenty to do.

๐Ÿ”จ Second-fix works

๐Ÿ’ก Electrical installations

๐Ÿšฟ Bathrooms

๐ŸŽจ Decoration

๐Ÿก Final finishes

But with each passing week we're getting closer to handing over another fantastic project.

The scaffolding, tools and dust will eventually disappear...

What will remain is a beautiful home that started life as an old stable building.

It's projects like this that remind us why we love what we do.

Every week brings another piece of the puzzle together, and we're getting closer to seeing this transformation completed.

Watch this space. The transformation is only just getting started.

๐Ÿกโš’๏ธ PASSIVE HOUSE PERFECTION TAKES TIME โš’๏ธ๐Ÿก

Every now and then we get asked why projects like this take so long...

The answer is in these photos.

What you're looking at isn't just a roof.

It's hundreds of individual details, measurements, folds, joints, clips and fixings, all working together to create a building that will perform for decades to come.

At Halzledean, we're now reaching one of those stages where the vision is becoming reality.

The standing seam zinc roof is taking shape beautifully, stretching across the building in clean, uninterrupted lines. Every seam has been carefully formed, every detail considered, and every section installed with precision.

From the handcrafted ridge details, to the skylight interfaces, ventilation penetrations, verge details and gutter connections, there is far more going on here than first meets the eye.

This isn't a roof that gets covered up and forgotten about.

This roof becomes part of the architecture.

Part of the character.

Part of the performance.

And on a Passive House project, performance matters.

The attention to detail required to achieve the standards expected on a project like this is immense.

What makes me particularly proud is the effort the team have put in over the last few weeks.

For the past three weeks the guys have quietly arrived on site from 6am, making every effort not to disturb the neighbours, and have often worked through until 7pm.

Not because anyone asked them to.

Not because they had to.

But because they take pride in what they do and wanted to help claw back time lost through various issues that have arisen during the project.

What was originally programmed as a six-week roofing package has effectively been completed in around three weeks.

That achievement doesn't just benefit us; it allows the following trades to move onto site sooner, keeps the project progressing and helps maintain momentum across the build.

It's a real credit to everyone involved.

๐Ÿ”จ Precision.

๐Ÿ“ Accuracy.

๐Ÿก Performance.

And of course, it wouldn't be a day on site without one of the local residents keeping an eye on proceedings.

The pigeon in the photos appears to have appointed itself Site Supervisor and has spent most of the week inspecting the workmanship from the safety of the scaffold! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ˜‚

As we move closer to the finish line, the excitement is building.

Render boards are next.

Render follows shortly after.

The final zinc details are being completed.

And before long, the scaffolding will come down and this incredible Passive House will finally reveal itself.

It's been a long journey.

But looking at these photos, it's hard not to be proud of what the whole team has achieved so far.

Watch this space... the big reveal isn't far away.

๐ŸŒณ THERE'S NOTHING WORSE THAN A BIG BUSH GETTING IN THE WAY... ๐Ÿ˜†
..especially when you've only got one parking space!

This week's mission was all about reclaiming a front garden that had slowly disappeared behind years of growth. What started as a driveway hidden behind encroaching shrubs, hedges and trees has now been opened back up, bringing light, space and visibility back to the property.

The main aim for this phase of works was simple: clear the area, remove the overgrown vegetation and get the driveway back. The long-term plan is even better โ€” remove the existing concrete drive, install all the necessary drainage and create a smart, low-maintenance block paved frontage that will completely transform the appearance of the property.

For now though, the owner can finally see where she lives again!

๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒฟ WILDLIFE FIRST ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒณ

Before a single branch was cut or a tree was removed, checks were carried out for any Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), and a thorough search was undertaken for nesting birds and active wildlife habitats.

At LA Building we believe that maintaining and encouraging wildlife is just as important as maintaining properties. While some jobs require vegetation to be removed, we always try to balance the needs of our clients with the needs of the wildlife that call these areas home.

๐Ÿฆ Nesting birds were carefully checked for.

๐ŸŒณ Trees were assessed before any works commenced.

๐ŸŒฟ Existing habitats were inspected and monitored.

In fact, wildlife around LA Building seems to be thriving. One of our resident Robins has decided that a soil pipe fitting in our yard is prime Wiltshire real estate and has built itself a rather impressive little home there. Rent-free, of course! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ˜‚

We may spend our days removing overgrown bushes, digging foundations and operating machinery, but we're also big believers that future generations should still be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of birds nesting, trees growing and nature doing what nature does best.

After all, a tidy garden is great...

But a garden alive with birdsong is even better. ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒฟ

โ˜€๏ธ The sunshine certainly helped keep spirits high this week. The guys were enjoying being outside, making the most of the weather and getting stuck into a job that produced some pretty dramatic results.

Of course, not everything always goes smoothly...

Sometimes there are casualties along the way.

Unfortunately, one innocent tea cup gave its life in the line of duty. โ˜•๐Ÿ’ฅ

After much friendly banter, it was unanimously agreed that Pip has now officially earned the title of "The Mad Hatter." The photographic evidence speaks for itself! ๐ŸŽฉ๐Ÿ˜‚

A huge thank you also goes to GRIST Environmental, who have looked after us for years and never let us down.

The conversation went something like this:

"Can we get a small skip?"

"When do you want it?"

"Now."

A quick phone call later, transport was arranged and the skip appeared almost before we'd put the phone down. Outstanding service as always. ๐Ÿ‘

And then came Friday...

Everything was going perfectly.

The weather was good.

The work was flowing.

The site was tidy.

The hedge was gone.

The driveway was visible again.

And I had even finished early enough to go and collect the digger with the truck.

The trailer was waiting.

There was plenty of room to manoeuvre.

Pip was just putting the final click on the last strap.

I pulled in.

Backed her up.

Wound the window down...
..only to be greeted by the unmistakable sound of a bottle of fizz popping and glasses clinking together! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿ˜‚

It would appear the celebrations had already started.

Luckily, they had already finished work for the day.... before anyone starts wondering if we now bring bottles of fizz to every job! ๐Ÿ˜†

With the site complete, the tools packed away and another happy client, it seemed only right to raise a glass to a job well done.

I've since heard that our client is so happy with her bush being trimmed back that she's no longer embarrassed to come out the front and show it off to the neighbours! ๐Ÿ˜†

All jokes aside, it's been a fantastic transformation. The client is delighted, the site is clean and clear, and we're now ready for the next stage of bringing this property back to life.

Another enjoyable week with plenty of laughs, plenty of hard work, a few cups of tea, one less tea cup, and another very happy customer.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ WE'RE NEARLY THERE... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

A few more days to go and the roof is finally starting to look exactly how we imagined it would.

The zinc roof is almost complete, the insulation is going in, the details are being finished off, and after what feels like an eternity of planning, measuring, lifting and fitting, we're now entering the final stretch.

Next up, we have a few electrical penetrations to come through from inside the building, then it's straight onto the render board and render. After that, we just need a quick return visit from the zinc guys to install the downpipes, and we'll be ready for the scaffolding to come down.

And if I'm honest... that's the part that's making me nervous! ๐Ÿ˜…

When you're working this close to a project every day, you see every little detail, every challenge and every solution. But once that scaffolding drops, there's nowhere to hide. The whole building is revealed for everyone to see.

Then comes the moment of truth...

We'll be waiting to hear what the Urchfont community thinks of it.

Exciting times. Nervous times. Scary times.

But looking at these photos, I'm incredibly proud of what the team has achieved so far. ๐Ÿ‘

A huge thank you to everyone involved. One final push and we'll be over the line.

โญ REVIEW OF THE WEEK โญ

As a business owner, there is nothing more rewarding than receiving feedback like this.

We work incredibly hard to deliver quality workmanship, excellent customer service, and a finished product that both we and our clients can be proud of. Reviews like this remind us why we do what we do.

A huge thank you to Vivienne and her family for trusting LA Building with their home and for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Here's what they had to say ๐Ÿ‘‡

"Lee and his team were fantastic from day one. The quote provided at the outset remained consistent through to completion, and throughout the project they were friendly, hardworking, dependable, and exceptionally skilled at what they do.

It didnโ€™t take long for them to feel like part of the family. We have two young daughters who were always excited to see the team, often making drawings for themโ€”always received with big smiles. On more than one occasion, this even led to impromptu sit-downs at their little plastic table and chairs ๐Ÿ˜Š

As for the work itself, Leeโ€™s team truly operate at the top of their trade. Their craftsmanship is outstanding. Working on an older property like ours required real attention to detail, and every aspect was handled with great care. It was a meticulous and demanding project, but they delivered superb results on both the roof and the repointing.

Weโ€™ve received so many compliments on how well the house now looks. Being the first house you see as you come down into the village, weโ€™re incredibly proud of its appearance and love seeing people slow down to admire the quality of the work. Itโ€™s already become something of a talking point locallyโ€”a real testament to the teamโ€™s craftsmanship.

A special mention goes to Shaney and Stu, who worked tirelesslyโ€”whatever the 'fine' English summer weather had in storeโ€”to ensure the repointing was completed to the highest standard. Credit is also due to the roofing crew and the additional contractors Lee brought in, all of whom helped elevate the project even further.

The finishing touch was Lee returning to repaint the front exterior grills and metalworkโ€”something not originally included in the scope. It perfectly reflects his attention to detail and commitment to going above and beyond for his clients.

We couldnโ€™t recommend LA Building more highly and will absolutely be using them again for future work.

Leeโ€ฆ consider this your warningโ€”weโ€™ll be in touch!"

โญโญโญโญโญ

Thank you again, Vivienne.

โœจ The Great Reveal โœจ

At LA Building, we believe the difference between a good job and an exceptional one is found in the details.

This project has been months in the making, from chimney restoration and roof works through to the full exterior clean and finish. Standing back and looking at the completed transformation, we're incredibly proud of what the team has achieved.

But what really defines our work isn't just the big elements you can see. It's the small finishing touches that many would overlook.

As we were carrying out the final clean down, I noticed the railings had flaking paint. They weren't part of our original scope of works, but I knew leaving them as they were would detract from the overall finish. So I instructed the team to sort them out at no extra cost.

Why? Because that's the standard we hold ourselves to.

Our clients trust us with their homes, and we believe they deserve a finish that looks complete from every angle. Sometimes that means going beyond the specification to deliver the result the property deserves.

A huge thank you to the lads for their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and dedication throughout this project. The transformation speaks for itself.

๐Ÿ“ Another quality restoration completed by LA Building.

If you're looking for a team that takes pride in the details as much as the big picture, get in touch.

It appears to have gone AWOL, but thankfully the new zinc roof is still doing plenty of shining. โœจ

The team are cracking on, the project is taking shape nicely, and things are apparently so calm on site that a pair of pigeons have decided to move in and start a family under the scaffolding.

We like to think that's nature's seal of approval. ๐Ÿฆ

Another great week of progress from the L.A Building team.

๐Ÿšง Progress Update at our Exciting Project in urchfont!!!๐Ÿšง

The lads have now moved into fast gear and this build is really starting to shine! โœจ

The zinc fascias and guttering are going on and looking absolutely brilliant, adding that sleek finishing touch to the exterior. Meanwhile, the MVHR system pipework is flowing in nicely as we continue to bring this project together.

And to top it all off, the final skylight has now been installed, flooding the space with natural light and showcasing the transformation taking place. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿก

Great progress all round, and we're looking forward to sharing more updates as this fantastic project continues to take shape.
