“Would you have spotted this during a routine inspection?”
A good reminder of why asbestos inspections need to be thorough.
While carrying out a recent survey in a boiler room, we came across residual thermal insulation material still adhered to a painted brick wall.
From a distance, the wall looked unremarkable and it would have been easy to walk past it without giving it a second thought. It was only during a close inspection that these small residues became apparent.
The material is a reminder that even where pipework and insulation have been removed, traces can remain behind many years later.
It’s findings like this that reinforce the importance of taking the time to properly inspect plant rooms, boiler houses and service areas. Small details can sometimes tell a much bigger story about the asbestos history of a building.
The close-up photograph shows just how easy this material could have been to miss.
Have you ever come across asbestos residues hidden in plain sight during a survey or refurbishment project?
