🗣 Mid week museum object!

This doll, made by Sheena MacLeod, is one of a set of Highland Characters created by the artist. They are highly collectable and prized for their realistic clothes and accessories, and won prizes across the world. Sold during the 1970s and 80s, Sheena was making up to 3000 dolls a year!

Our figure, the fisherman, comes with his own tiny cran, which is a form of basket used to weigh and move fish. A full size quarter cran would have been made to a regulated size to ensure that any fish bought or sold was of a consistent quantity.

Midweek museum object!

This week's object is this handmade cast iron ladle for use at the well at Redcastle. Along the handle is marked W R 10/6/93. It was donated with a handwritten note which says "This ladle was made by the late Mr. W. Robertson of 'Robertson & Porter' in June 1893. For use at the well at Redcastle, Black Isle. The well has since been filled in."

🗣️ Midweek museum object!

Every Monday and Tuesday our volunteers are working diligently behind the scenes to document and photograph our museum collections. We're slowly getting them online for everyone to see, and if you head to the Explore page of our website you can look through almost 400 objects.

With around 15,000 items in our collection we've got a way to go yet, but what better way to start sharing our collections with you than this limited edition bottle of Loch Lomond whisky. One of only 200 bottles, it was created in 2021 especially for Staggies Army members, and now sits proudly within our growing collection of items relating to Ross County.
