, September 2026. High Street Bruton features in this month's round up of period extensions done well.

The steeply pitched, zinc clad roof was designed to mirror the neighbouring roofline, a considered addition to the listed terrace. Managing director Stefan Pitman on the approach: a clear, contemporary addition that stays sympathetic to the historic form.

A former farmyard building in Purbeck has been transformed into a flexible family home, centred around a natural swimming pool, a green-roofed outbuilding and an oak-framed extension.

The pool set the direction for the whole project: no chlorine, no heating, just a planted regeneration zone, reed beds and a specialist filtration system doing the work naturally. Concrete L-shaped units form its structural sides, with planting softening the edges back into the garden.

The ground floor of the house was reworked too, creating a new kitchen, living and dining space, taking the property from four bedrooms to six.

At Manor Farmhouse in Dorset, we resolved long-standing water ingress and replaced a tired conservatory with a considered contemporary addition all while respecting the building's historic character throughout.

The roof alone tells you everything about our approach to material specification.

A listed building. Four species of bats. A plan that worked.

At Western House in North Dorset, converting a listed building into a contemporary home meant careful planning around an established bat population on site and a pandemic that hit partway through the build.

The result: a garden studio, sauna, and self-catering annex for visiting family, built in partnership with K&B Builders (South West).

This thatched house in Dorset was once home to William Barnes the Victorian poet who taught Thomas Hardy to write.

Old Came Rectory is Grade II listed, and our work here covered everything from Listed Building Consent through to bespoke joinery and a full interior rework, all designed to sit quietly within a building shaped by centuries of careful hands.

The staircase at Sherborne House isn't a circulation route. It's a gallery.

The murals are the work of Sir James Thornhill, a Dorset-born painter best known for the Painted Hall at Greenwich and the inside of the dome of St Paul's Cathedral. The Sherborne mural is a rare survival of his work in a domestic setting.

Our role was to restore and protect it, then make it the heart of a working arts centre.
