After six months on site the works at St Johns Point in Clerkenwell have reached completion. New flat and pitched roof coverings, new windows and various external repairs and redecorations have left the residential and commercial property fully refreshed. The scaffolding was complicated and the weather far from kind but the end results are impressive.

Many thanks to Standage & Co. Ltd. for their great work on this project.

BPG are pleased to share that Beverley Angove has successfully completed the retrofit coordinator course run by the The Retrofit Academy CIC. All of us at BPG Architects + Surveyors would like to congratulate her on this achievement and acknowledge the hard work and commitment needed to attain this qualification.

As a qualified Retrofit Coordinator, she will be leading our retrofit initiatives, ensuring sustainability, efficiency, and success in all our projects. Beverley has already given an informative presentation to the practice on the topic which we all found very useful.

As part of national apprenticeship week BPG Architects + Surveyors would like to celebrate that one of our architectural assistants, Abigail Durham will be starting her Architect Degree Apprenticeship through the University of Portsmouth towards the end of the year.

This apprenticeship scheme is an excellent route into the architectural industry allowing students to complete their Part II and Part III qualifications whilst remaining in work, gaining valuable on the job experience. The apprenticeship is recognised by the ARB and validated by RIBA, once completed students are eligible to join the register of architects held by the ARB.

BPG Architects + Surveyors are pleased to share that the scaffolding has been struck at our latest façade remediation project in Basin Approach, Limehouse. This project consisted of a complete strip and renewal of the wall cladding materials to the entire block and installation of new rainscreen cladding, insulated render, curtain walling infill panels and renewal of the private balcony decking. BPG were responsible for all remedial work technical design aspects; producing designs, drawings and solutions supported by structural and fire engineers and building control.

The main contractor, Guildmore Ltd., have done a fantastic job and a big thank you to all involved Furness Partnership, CHPK Fire Engineering, Arambol LLP, LIMEHOUSE EAST MANAGEMENT LIMITED, Haus Block Management, we hope the leaseholders are as pleased with the works as we are.

Work is progressing well on another one of our cladding remedial projects in London. Work to replace the combustible materials on the facades is nearing completion and the scaffolding is starting to be taken down.

Whether it's a commercial structure, a residential property, or any other type of building, it's always satisfying to witness the progress and transformation from the planning stages to handover. We hope the residents are as pleased with the results as we are.

Great progress is being made at one of our cladding remediation projects in Basin Approach. BPG visited the site last week and we were very impressed with the work by everyone involved.

Following completion of RIBA stages 1 to 4 from our design team BPG are pleased to share that the works have commenced for one of our façade remediation projects in London. The works consist of a full strip and renewal of all combustible wall cladding materials and installation of new rainscreen cladding, insulated render, curtain walling and the renewal of private balcony decking. All replacement materials will match the existing as closely as possible and not change the overall appearance of the façade.

Our staff have been on site this week to help oversee the start of this project and be on hand to assist the contractors with any queries they may have about the works.

Last week BPG staff enjoyed a few days at the ‘Futurebuild’ exhibition at the Excel centre in London. The exhibition featured many innovative solutions addressing the biggest challenges facing the built environment. There were also several insightful seminars addressing the current climate crisis and possible ways forward to help alleviate it. The sessions were curated by ‘the leading experts from over 90 industry partners and associations.’

A great day out had by all and we would definitely recommend to anyone in the industry considering going next year!

BPG were on top of the world in Clerkenwell recently...

The first detailed external inspections were undertaken at St Johns Point in Clerkenwell last week ahead of the external refurbishment and redecorations, window and pitched roof renewal works – including the straightening of the spherical pinnacle on top of the turret!

The premises, once the works and office of John Wilkins & Co – Bronzists & Lacquerers, French and Mecurial Gilders, Electro Gilders and Silver & Nickel Platers – has stood on the site since the early 1900’s. The block now houses private apartments and an Architectural practise.

Having survived two world wars and several interventions and additions the building is now ready for a well-earned facelift and BPG Architects + Surveyors working with the residents, landlord and contractors Standage & Co have commenced this process.

BPG are pleased to have attended the Ashcombe School careers fair last week. It was an excellent evening speaking with many young people about architecture and building surveying and answering their questions about a career in the construction industry.
