With fuel and operating costs changing so quickly, we’ve had to make one small change going forward.

We recently priced a 1,300-mile route using fuel at £1.85/L. By the time we actually ran it around a week later, we averaged roughly £2.08/L (£2.15/L at one visit. It's clear the volatility isn't temporary.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱:

Quotes will now be valid for 72 hours.

After that, we’ll simply refresh the quote against current costs. We’d rather do that than inflate everybody’s prices now to protect ourselves against what fuel might cost next week or next month.

Not every move is hundreds of miles.

But this one was quirky enough to share.

After completing the move, the customer asked if we could continue storing some of their items for a while longer.

“Sure.”

“For how long?”

No problem.

“How much?”

Free.

“What’s the catch?”

If we need the space back, we’d simply deliver everything round to their garage.

“Sure — here’s a key.” 🤷‍♂️🥰🤝

And that, in a nutshell, is the sort of thing that probably sums us up better than any polished sales pitch ever could.

We do things other movers don’t.

The only thing we do the same is load the van.

Sometimes people need transport.

That’s fine with us.

Because real moves don’t always happen in neat little boxes — even if the belongings do.

Some moves start with a home visit.

This one started with the customer in 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 🌏🇮🇳

The entire move was organised remotely before our customer travelled back to the UK, packed up their one-bedroom flat in North London and had everything ready for our arrival on Sunday.

From there, we built the labour, vehicle and transport plan around what the move actually needed.

🤝 𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗥. 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧.

With a first-floor flat to clear, this wasn't a one-man collection.

Rather than taking a second member of our team from Scotland all the way to London and back, we arranged for a trusted local porter to meet our driver at the property.

A big thank you to 𝗧𝗼𝗯𝗶, provided by 𝗗𝗟 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲, who joined us to make up the two-man collection team.

Once everything was safely loaded, Tobi’s part of the job was complete and the move continued north as part of our shared transport route.

The customer's belongings were collected in North London on 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 and safely delivered into storage in Dundee on 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆.

💷 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗗

This was one of those moves where the plan was never treated as fixed just because we'd already made one.

We reassessed the wider route several times around this collection — looking at the confirmed loads, available capacity, access and what we actually needed to complete everything safely.

That eventually allowed us to confidently 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 for the route.

For a London collection, that brought benefits beyond simply using less fuel:

🚐 A smaller vehicle while retaining the capacity we needed
⛽ Less fuel used across a long-distance route
🏙️ Easier access through London
🅿️ Fewer city parking and loading headaches
💷 Lower operating costs without compromising the move

We applied exactly the same thinking to the labour.

The customer still had a proper two-man team where two people were actually needed — at the first-floor London property — without paying for a second mover to travel the entire distance between Scotland and London.

Put it all together and the solution was simple:

𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 + 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁-𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 + 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.

That created a substantial saving compared with approaching the same job as a traditional dedicated two-man long-distance removal.

𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲. 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺. 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲.

Good communication meant the move could be organised before the customer was even back in the country.

Local support gave us the manpower we needed in London.

Regularly reviewing the route meant we used the vehicle we actually needed rather than simply sticking with the biggest one originally planned.

Shared transport took care of the long-distance journey.

And everything was safely back in Scotland and into storage two days after collection.

Not every long-distance move needs a dedicated van travelling directly from one address to another.

For this small student move, we collected everything from Cardiff on Friday as part of one of our planned shared transport routes north.

The customer’s belongings were already extremely well packed and ready for transport, while clear communication throughout meant collection could be completed quickly and everything could continue north as planned.

But one of the biggest benefits of the arrangement happened after we left.

With their belongings already taken care of, our customer was free to enjoy their final few days in Cardiff rather than spending the weekend surrounded by boxes, waiting for moving day or having to travel alongside their belongings.

They travelled north separately at their own pace, and we met again in Dundee on Monday evening for delivery.

Students often don’t need an entire removal van — but they still need their belongings handled with the same care and professionalism as a full home move.

Boxes, bags, personal belongings, instruments and smaller furniture can all travel as part of a planned journey, with collection and delivery arranged around realistic travel dates rather than forcing everything to happen at once.

It’s particularly useful when moving between universities, returning home, starting a placement or relocating somewhere new.

Sometimes a move profile really is as simple as moving one item from A to B.

This job came to us courtesy of KM Carriers Limited who passed the transport on to us when it fitted perfectly with one of our planned southbound routes.

A big thank you also goes to KC Transport - Arbroath, who collected and brought the table to us ahead of departure — another good example of independent transport businesses working together to get a job where it needs to go.

From there, we took care of the rest.

The table came from 𝗔𝗿𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝘁𝗵, 𝗗𝗗𝟭𝟭, travelled south with us as part of our planned route, and was safely delivered to 𝗪𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗻, 𝗦𝗪𝟭𝟵.

🪑 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆.

It wasn’t until we arrived for delivery that we heard the story behind it.

The table had originally been found in 𝗣𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 before eventually making its way to Scotland.

Which made us smile a bit, because after we’d already carried it from Dundee to Cardiff the previous day, it turned out the table had briefly found its way back to Wales before heading on to its final destination in London.

A small detail, but a lovely one.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀.

Not every job needs a full van.

Single items, furniture pieces, marketplace finds, antiques and smaller consignments can often be built into journeys already being made — with the same care and professional handling as the larger moves.

And sometimes several transport businesses working together is simply the most sensible way to get something from where it is to where it needs to be.

This move was a good example of why we don’t treat every job as simply Collection A → Delivery B.

Within days of the initial enquiry, we collected the customer’s belongings from another storage facility and transferred them into our own storage in Dundee, where they stayed for around two weeks while the next stage of the move was being arranged.

That meant they could stop paying additional storage fees elsewhere, as storage with us is complimentary as part of our home moves and shared transport services.

The original plan was to deliver to Stoke-on-Trent later in the weekend, but we brought the delivery forward to better suit the customer’s schedule and current accommodation arrangements.

Because we were already heading south on one of our planned UK routes, we were able to build the move into the journey rather than creating an unnecessary separate trip.

That one adjustment also saved around 300miles of additional driving while still getting their belongings to Stoke at a time that worked better for them given the last minute adjustments from the property they were moving into.

Perhaps the quirkiest part of the whole move? Despite the distance, storage, planning and last-minute changes involved — we never actually met the customer in person. Everything was coordinated remotely from start to finish.

We also left everything fully wrapped and protected, so when their permanent accommodation is ready, the belongings can be transported again easily and safely without everything having to be prepared from scratch. Our only request - use them again or gift them on to someone.

Collection from existing storage, complimentary storage with us, flexible delivery planning and onward-ready protection — all handled as part of one joined-up move.
