It's one of the most common concerns we hear from self-builders — and it makes complete sense. You're investing everything into this build. The last thing you want is your frame arriving on site and something not lining up.
So let's talk about it honestly.
Yes, the risk exists. Timber frame is a prefabricated product, and foundations have to be built to match. If something goes wrong on site before the frame arrives, it can cause real problems.
But here's what most people don't realise — we've built an entire process around making sure it doesn't happen.

Timber frame or SIPs — which is better?

Honestly? It depends on you.
Hayden gets asked this all the time.
And rather than give you the answer most companies would give — the one that conveniently favours what they sell — here’s the real answer.

Both systems can get you to the same place.
A beautiful, high-performing, bespoke home.
They just get there differently.

Timber frame uses structural timber studs to carry the load.
SIPs removes those studs entirely and relies on two sheathing boards with insulation sandwiched in between.

Think of it like a wafer biscuit — wafer, cream, wafer. No studs. Just the panel doing all the work.

The question isn’t which is better.

The question is which is better for you.
What’s your priority — sustainability? Speed? Cost? Thermal performance?

The answer to that question is what points you toward the right build system.
