Are UK house prices set to fall in October?

By the time you’re toasting the new year with a glass of champagne, the price of the average home in the UK will be about £258,000, up 4.5 per cent in 12 months, according to the latest forecast from Hamptons estate agency.
More homes will have sold in 2021 than in any year since 2007; and an estimated 1.5 million people will have bought a property.
Yet in January the Office for Budget Responsibility, the government’s official forecaster, predicted that house prices will fall.

Homes in London are taking two weeks longer to sell than the UK average as the housing market shows early signs of slowing down.

In May it took more than eight weeks to secure a buyer in the capital, compared to the national average of just under six weeks, according to Rightmove.

Across the country, the number of sales agreed was up 45 per cent in April compared to 2019 but declined to just 17 per cent up in May.
