✨ Just back from and couldn’t resist stopping for lunch at the brilliant auberge, now thriving in the former Harrow Inn.

When we bought the building, our hope was simple: to find a tenant who could bring something truly special to such a special place. And wow—Michael and Joanne have done exactly that. The transformation is nothing short of remarkable, breathing new life into a much-loved local gem and making it sing once more.

The vibe? Relaxed, welcoming, and full of character. The food? Honestly, on par with some of the finest restaurants I’ve ever visited. Their chef is a real talent—the French onion soup alone was unforgettable: rich, hearty, and served in a portion so generous I left happily stuffed.

We couldn’t be more delighted for Michael and Joanne, and I wish them every success as they continue this journey. Excited too about future collaborations—together we’ll ensure guests up above at Room in the Borders enjoy not just a stay, but a truly memorable all-round experience.

Today we’re off to tackle a hill climb in the Cairngorms ⛰️ and it got me thinking about parallels to business.

From tackling Scottish hills to developing a thriving serviced accommodation business, both require determination and strategic thinking. Scaling peaks teaches resilience, a trait I’m certainly finding out is vital in entrepreneurship. Just as each summit rewards you with breathtaking views (if the weather allows 😜) our business offers memorable experiences for guests. 🎉✨ Cheers!! 🍾

After two years and a complete refurbishment, we were thrilled to host our first guests at Room in the Borders - 1 Sime Place yesterday ✨ It’s been an incredible journey full of hard work, commitment, and unwavering dedication to build something special in Galashiels. Last night we got to celebrate this important milestone. 🥂 our first guest arrived to stay in two of the rooms. We’d put aside a bottle of fizz at the start of the project and said we’d open it once the first guest arrived. So last night we toasted to every late night, every paint stroke, and every moment of perseverance that got us to this moment. 🙌🏼 It’s not just about reaching the destination; it’s also important to enjoy the journey and celebrate the wins along the way. So here’s to new beginnings, unforgettable experiences (both good and bad), growing and learning and to the power of perseverance!

The Scottish Borders really are an area that are under utilised and under marketed. But over the last 4 years we’ve definitely seen growth in the Borders and more of a focus on promoting what this brilliant area of our wee country has to offer. We’re delighted to be playing a small part in bringing visitors and revenue to the area and supporting local jobs.

For anyone not aware of Galashiels here’s six quick reasons to visit for a few days.

1. Surrounded by stunning countryside it’s easy to take part in a host of outdoor activities like mountain biking, cycling, hiking or fishing. The area caters for everyone - whether you’re looking for an adrenaline kick or a simple serene escape.

2. You can indulge your taste buds at some fabulous local eateries in town , or nearby Melrose, and savour a pint of excellent craft beer brewed at the nearby Tempest Brewing Co. taproom.

3. If history is your thing there’s Abbotsford House, once home to Sir Walter Scott, or take a stroll through the captivating ruins of Melrose Abbey nearby.

4. We love to support local businesses and as we’re live music lovers we can’t sing the praises highly enough of MacArts, Galashiels, an independent music and arts venue located in a beautiful church hosting regular live music. Less than 1 minute walk from our rooms.

5. A recent addition to the town is the impressive The Great Tapestry of Scotland gallery, showcasing Scotland's rich heritage in an incredible building right next door to our rooms.

6. Just a 50 minute train ride from Edinburgh makes Gala a great base for visitors who want access the city but who prefer to stay somewhere more rural.

Galashiels and the wider Scottish Borders really does have something for everyone and is a perfect destination for a memorable short stay.

After a full on fab family day hosting our folks and siblings Boxing Day is a totally chilled switched off event and at Chez Cameron. Just had a wander along the prom on a crisp, beautiful blue day and now back home with a hot, whisky-laced coffee some of Finn’s boozy Christmas cake and some Christmas TV on. All thoughts of business on hold today. Whatever friends and family are getting up to today I hope you’re having a great day.
