When it comes to a new build property, do you know any couple that can agree on the Interior Design options without debating?

If made wrongly this can be both disappointing and costly.

As a former Client Options Manager for a luxury housing developer, I was in charge of selecting the choices from the suppliers for the flooring, kitchens, tiles etc that we would offer to our new home buyers.

This was such a fun part of the job but you also had to ensure the choice available would suit a number of tastes.

So for us it's simple, but for new home buyers it can sometimes seem overwhelming!

When a couple are making the purchase of a lifetime to choose the final finishes for their forever home, they can sometimes feel that there is a lot of pressure to choose the right selections.

The other thing is - will they agree?

As well as the basic ranges being available, there are also the dreaded “upgrades” so when you get the final bill you almost want to bury your head in the sand.

As their forever home they don't want to make the wrong choice.

So last week I chaperoned my clients to help them do just that!

When we arrived at the selection centre, they couldn't agree

But when asked the right questions from someone who knows about design, it opened their views up to welcome new choices and build their confidence during the process.

They finally came to an agreement.

They walked away with some of their original choices but changed quite a few of them based on the questions I asked to dig a little deeper and truly unveil what eachother was thinking.

If you are in the process of buying a new build and you require a chaperone design service then please get in touch!

Yesterday was a workshop and action day!

When working with Directors of businesses who supply the construction industry there can sometimes be delays in decision making due to their busy schedules.

When there is more than one Director of a business and they are working on different sites it's even harder to get them in the same room!

So sometimes it's better to encourage them to take a day and just get all their ideas and future plans down on paper by doing a marketing strategy workshop!

▪️ Product launches
▪️ Social Media Content
▪️ Reporting
▪️ Website Development and management
▪️ Photography Projects
▪️ Marketing Campaigns
▪️ Events
▪️ Sponsorship and Collaborations

All dates agreed for the next 6 months with interim review periods!

Just having someone take this off their plate and put it into a formalised marketing strategy and calendar with someone you can trust to deliver it makes things a heck of alot easier!

What’s even better is that these workshops can be a bit intense so the humour is always helpful to get you through!

Everyone needs a bit of humour in their working day!  Agreed?

For my 30th birthday I asked for a college course for my present!

I went to study Interior Styling for Photography & Advertising at London's Central Saint Martins when my kid was only 6 months old.

There was a waiting list for the intense 7 day course and I had been wanting to do it for a couple of years so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity.

I remember leaving him with my other half and feeling guilty, but part of me was also excited!!

As much as I loved maternity leave, I was also missing work and being creative, so this felt like the perfect opportunity to get me inspired again.

To some people it probably is not the most exciting gift but for me it was perfect!

I remember styling all my outfits for the week - including my shoes, accessories and even makeup! Being able to get on the train with no buggy or nappy bag in sight even felt exciting.

Since I was 12, Interior Design has been a passion of mine -  my mum bought me an interior design programme for my Commodore 64 and that got me hooked!

Although I had an honours degree in Design and I had been doing some freelance interior design work at the time, this course reignited my passion for the subject.

Studying with other like minded people, walking around London and visiting high end interior stores for inspiration for the photoshoots was just insane!

But the Central Saint Martins building……the interior spaces, the exposed brick, the studios and that atrium when you walk in….even that was just enough for me!

I have a birthday coming up next month 😬  I will be 38  😳 which I can't quite believe and in those 8 years I have designed a lot of interiors, worked for amazing architects and housing developers but it is a great feeling to say that I finally took the leap and started working for myself!

So if you are currently on maternity leave or at a point where you need some new motivation for your subject, look at doing something which might get you buzzing for it again you never know where it might lead.

I'm getting a bit more creative this morning!

I have worked in the construction industry going on 15 years now 😳  in various sectors including property, interiors and architecture so the brands I work with at the moment are all from within these areas.

Daily, my head jumps in and out of different brands all day so when it comes to thinking about my own marketing, future development and goal setting sometimes it feels difficult to get the creative flow going.

So this morning the first hour is going to be spent getting back to my creative roots.

Taking myself away from the screen, getting out the pens and paper (😵 shock) and doing some brainstorming with some of my own workshop tutorials.

I've got some inspiration material, workshop questions and I am ready to go.

Have a great Monday!

👉“We have a social media account, but we don’t really post anything. We don’t really need to as we have such a good reputation” 😏

This is where many businesses or industry professionals’ fail and something I notice a lot in the construction industry.

You can’t make a profile and expect it to represent you without a little work. 😂

Just like managing a good reputation in real life includes working for it, keeping connections, checking in on clients, and showing you are still active in your industry—this also holds true in social media. 🙌

Your online reputation depends on how active you are.

For example, if someone goes to your profile page and you haven’t posted for months, what are they to think? 🤷‍♀️

Have they given up on social media? Are they up to anything? 🤔

It might not be important to you but what about your customers or your network?

It’s their window into your company.

99% of the time now people will check out your profiles. 📲

This isn’t just from a customer perspective but also if you want to grow and attract people who you want to work for you.

With lockdown easing, it is getting people's backsides back into gear. ⏳

How will you do things differently this time round?

I think I know someone who could advise! 🙋
