Court finds City of Edinburgh STL Licence policy unlawful

The Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers (ASSC) have hailed today’s legal opinion at the Court of Session that City of Edinburgh’s short-term let licensing policy is unlawful regarding their rebuttable presumption against granting a licence, amongst other matters.

You must have at least 12 months experience working in a cleaning or housekeeping role in a hospitality/hotel environment.

We are looking for dynamic individuals with a good eye for detail, who understand the importance of creating a great first impression.

Our properties are located throughout Edinburgh so you should be willing to travel short distances between jobs and have a smart phone.

Hours are flexible, usually working mornings and afternoons.

KEY DUTIES
* Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping floors.
* Dusting, brushing, polishing furniture.
* Cleaning appliances and structural surfaces (e.g. cookers, wall fixtures, window and window sills).
* Cleaning crockery, utensils and all other kitchen items.
* Changing linen, making beds and checking for damaged linen.
* Emptying linen from linen bags and re-packing with used linens
* Cleaning showers, bathtubs, sinks and bathroom items.
* Replenishing guest amenities and supplies.
* Inspecting rooms for safety hazards and for the operating condition of equipment and reporting same to maintenance.
* Reporting lost and found articles, maintenance problems to a supervisor.
* Preparing rooms for guest arrival
* To be responsible for keys whilst in your care.
* To show willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
* To ensure that you comply with the company dress code at all times.
* Other duties as defined as reasonable by the management of the company

Job Type: Zero hours, Permanent
Salary: £9.50 per hour

*£100 starting bonus paid after 90 days from start date, following satisfactory performance review

"Some visitors displaced by a reduction in short-term let capacity may use other forms of accommodation, such as hotels and hostels. This may also encourage the further provision of these types of accommodation."

Or, in our remote and rural destinations, they will just hire a motorhome: damaging infrastructure, negatively impacting local communities and increasing our carbon footprint.

Meanwhile, reducing the capacity of professional self-caterers and B&Bs will have no impact whatsoever on the availability of affordable housing. Conversly, self-catering businesses that close may well be bought up as second homes, providing no positive impact on local economies.

Professional operators are being seen as collateral damage in this disastrous piece of legislation.
