We're delighted to share that The Old Millhouse is a finalist for Best Self-Catering or Exclusive Use at this year's Scottish Thistle Awards.

The Central and East Scotland regional final takes place this Thursday at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, and Sally is proud to be in the room alongside some of the finest tourism businesses in the country. Attractions, hotels, restaurants, events and family-run businesses are all on the shortlist, and each one helps give visitors to this part of Scotland such a warm welcome.

Being recognised again means a great deal to us. Our thanks go to every guest who has stayed with us and told others about it. You are the reason we're here.

Close your eyes and picture Christmas morning at the Old Millhouse. Everyone you love under one roof of a 300-year-old stone millhouse on the River Esk. A summers day at the Old Millhouse moves at its own gentle pace - the lawns stretching down towards the River Esk, the borders in full bloom, and the swim spa ready to cool you off in a heatwave. When came to the Scottish Borders this weekend for the Borders Book Festival, we did what any self-respecting fan of a good cocktail and a great Scottish story would do - we went and got ourselves a copy of The Cocktail Diaries.

And now it takes pride of place in the retro snug at the Old Millhouse. Honestly, it couldn’t feel more at home.

For anyone who knows him beyond Outlander, Sam is one of Scotland’s most enthusiastic advocates for craft spirits and the art of a really well-made drink. The Cocktail Diaries takes you from a Boulevardier in Paris to a Papaya Margarita in the back of a van in the mountains of Oaxaca - part recipe book, part spirited adventure, with cocktail stories from some of the world’s best bartenders woven through his own travels. It’s a brilliant read. It also makes a very convincing case for pouring yourself something interesting and settling in for the evening the snug at the a perfect setting.

Two weeks. A roe deer fawn in difficulty, a tiny rejected chick who has decided I'm her mum, and a to-do list that is very much not getting any shorter. 🦌🐣
