🏦 BANK OF ENGLAND HOLDS RATES AT 3.75%
The Bank of England has today held Bank Rate at 3.75% for the sixth consecutive meeting, as expected.
The vote was 6–3 in favour of holding rates, with three members voting for an increase to 4%.
However, there was an important warning from Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey.
He said that while higher global energy costs have so far had a limited impact on UK inflation and wage setting, the longer the volatility continues, the greater the potential impact on inflation and the more likely it becomes that Bank Rate may need to rise.
📈 So what does this mean for mortgage rates?
Although Bank Rate has remained unchanged today, there is still uncertainty around the future direction of interest rates.
With global energy prices, inflation and the wider economy continuing to influence the outlook, some economists and financial market commentators are now suggesting that we could see a rate increase later this year if inflationary pressures persist.
Fixed rates have been increasing with little or no warning in the last couple of weeks, so for anyone with a mortgage deal coming to an end in the next 3-6 months, it is therefore worth reviewing your options sooner rather than later.
