In this week’s episode, Seamus Connolly, CEO of Ely Foodbank, describes how the charity serves nine locations across 288 with welcoming session-style distributions and an ‘extras’ table that includes toiletries and pet food. He explains the volunteer-run logistics, partnerships with Citizens Advice and other support agencies, and the impact of rising costs on local need.

The episode highlights ways the community can help—donate pantry staples (especially tinned meat, UHT milk, custard), volunteer at sessions or the warehouse, or give regular financial support—and points listeners to Ely Foodbank’s social channels for current needs and events.

A little parking reminder for our EWC community…

We’ve had a few instances recently of EWC customers accidentally parking in spaces belonging to neighbouring businesses.

We completely understand that parking can be tricky, particularly when you’re in a hurry or arriving for a meeting, but we’d really appreciate your help in making sure we’re only using the 4 spaces specifically allocated to EWC, which are clearly marked with our branding.

The other spaces around us belong to our neighbouring businesses and their customers, so please leave these free for them.

There is also on-street parking available nearby, as well as the long-stay car park on Bartholomew’s Way, just a short walk from EWC.

We’re proud to be part of the local business community and want to be good neighbours to the businesses around us.

Thank you, as always, for your understanding and for helping us keep things positive for everyone.

🍻 PUB CLUB STARTS THIS FRIDAY! 🍻

Going for an after work drink with your colleagues can be tough if you work on your own, or run a business by yourself, or if you’re stuck in your office at home all week… so we want to fix that and get people back out chatting, laughing, and unwinding.

That’s the idea behind Pub Club - our new monthly get-together for remote workers, freelancers, small business owners… or frankly, anyone who’s had one of those weeks and fancies a bit of company.

Riverbank Kitchen, Ely - From 6pm until late

Just good people, good conversation and the chance to properly switch off after a busy week.

Whether you come for one drink or stay until closing time, you’re welcome.

Shutdown the laptop. Leave work where it belongs. And come to the pub.

Clare and Stu, co-owners of the Microbiome Cafe, share how a shared love of coffee and a desire for healthier, tasty snacks turned into a mobile food business. They explain the development of their plant-diverse, accidentally vegan recipes (including raspberry brownies, powerballs and oat-banana pancakes), the practical challenges of starting a food venture, the benefits of local supplier relationships, and the personal motivations around gut and mental health that drive their mission.

Now operating from a horsebox fitted with batteries, gas and solar, they’re testing markets, refining their offering and aiming to bring better snack choices to events focused on wellness and community.
