With the rise of large commercial buildings and dwellings across the UK, the demand for safe and effective inspection of rooftops has been growing substantially.

Every roof is different, and every roof has multiple inspection needs. Leaks, holes and deterioration can cost thousands and cause other issues within the building relating to damp, mould, and large commercial buildings can have HVAC/extraction systems, and solar panels installed that all need a routine visual/thermal inspection.

The rise of drones over the past decade has changed the way we inspect rooftops. Drones can reduce the need for scaffolding/temporary scaffolding & ladders, expensive powered lifts. Whilst reducing the need to work at height. A simple drone flight can gather valuable information that can easily be shared back to stakeholders and clients.
This does create a time, financial efficiency. But most importantly safety. And a reduction on lost time accidents. RIDDOR

Lots of progress today/tonight working on a surface project using a Matek F405 wing flight controller, GPS, DJI air unit, inspire 2 transmitter and some inav rover software. With some help from my friends Sean Joss. Exciting times ahead.

It always makes me very nervous performing a maiden flight on a new aircraft. Especially one that is bigger than me with no additional support. So a few things before I set my TOAL near Exeter ATC.

1 check airspace, use NATS drone assist to create as much flight deconfliction without a pre planned NOTAM as possible

2 consider calling Exeter ATC to inform them of your location out of good airmanship.

3 pre flight checks as this is a new factory built model.

4 consider weight and uninvolved people/assemblies of people.

5 plan secondary TOAL where possible given that a fixed wing aircraft requires lots of room to land.
