♻️ HOT TOPIC – CHANGES TO WASTE & RECYCLING IN EXETER ♻️

Exeter are introducing changes to waste and recycling collections as part of the Government’s new “Simpler Recycling” scheme.

🌍 The aim is to make recycling easier, reduce contamination and improve recycling rates across the UK. These changes will mainly affect how glass and food waste are disposed of.

🚮 What’s Changing?
🍎 Food Waste Collections

Food waste collections are being expanded across Exeter and will become a standard service for households.

This means food waste should no longer be placed into general rubbish bins where possible. Separate food waste caddies/bins will be used for items such as:

🍽️ Leftover food
🥕 Fruit and vegetable peelings
☕ Tea bags and coffee grounds
🍞 Bread, pasta and rice
🍖 Meat and fish waste

♻️ Food waste collected separately can be turned into renewable energy and fertiliser instead of going to landfill.

🗑️ Food waste will be collected every week, the same as your recycling and general waste bins.

🍾 Glass Recycling

Glass recycling rules are also becoming stricter, although this does not apply to everyone in Exeter yet.

✅ Only glass bottles and jars should be placed into recycling collections.

❌ Items such as drinking glasses, mirrors, vases, cookware and candle jars should NOT be placed in recycling bins as they can contaminate recycling loads.

⚠️ Why This Matters

Incorrect recycling can lead to:

🚫 Missed collections
♻️ Contaminated recycling loads
💰 Increased waste charges
📋 Fines for councils and businesses
🌍 More waste going to landfill
🙌 Please Help By:

✔️ Separating food waste correctly
