Mornings at Little Avalon. Coffee in the garden, the beams and the quiet, and no particular reason to rush anywhere. It's the most traditional of our cottages, built for two, and people tend to fall for it.

If you only do one day trip from here, make it the Lizard. It's the drive Rich sends everyone on: Kynance Cove, Lizard Point (the actual bottom of Britain), lunch at Cadgwith, and Roskilly's for ice cream on the way home. A full, brilliant day. We've written the whole route up.

A complete one-day driving itinerary around the Lizard Peninsula: Church Cove, Kynance, Lizard Point, Cadgwith, the old serpentine works and Roskilly's farm.

Three acres to roam and relax in away from it all. That's what we offer at Trewena. There's a wildflower meadow that hums all summer, a little patch of woods, and a fire pit that's seen a lot of good evenings. Guests often tell us they came for Cornwall and ended up spending half their stay just out here. We understand it completely.

Gyllyngvase on a late-summer afternoon. Blue Flag sand, a proper swim, the Gylly Beach cafe for afterwards, and Pendennis Castle keeping watch across the bay. Ten minutes from the door, and still our favourite way to end a warm day.

Falmouth Week is upon us, 7 to 16 August. If you're around, the Red Arrows fly Wednesday the 12th and the big fireworks are Friday the 14th. Our tip: skip the crush on the main event and watch the Arrows from Pendennis Point or the grass above Gyllyngvase. Full run-down of the week here.

The Pigsty does things its own way: living room upstairs to catch the countryside view, bedroom below. On a summer evening you throw the windows open, put your feet up, and let the view do the work. Our quirky one, built for two.

There's a pattern we've noticed. People arrive with big plans, unpack, wander out to the patio with a drink, and that's them for the night. The first evening at Trewena has a way of slowing you down before Cornwall even gets a look in. We think that's rather the point.

Maenporth is the one we send people to when they want sand without the crowds. A wide sheltered beach at the end of a wooded valley, ten minutes from here, with The Cove for lunch right on the front. Quieter than Gylly, and lovely for it.

St Ives is worth a day of anyone's holiday. Park and ride in (trust us on the parking), then four beaches within a walk of each other, the Tate, Barbara Hepworth's garden, and a proper pasty by the harbour. We've written up how to do it without the stress.

How to do St Ives in a day from a Falmouth base. Park and ride, the four main beaches, the Tate and Barbara Hepworth Museum, where to eat, and a coast-path walk if you've got the legs.
