The outdoor season is now well & truly sewn up with league positions & club champions decided. The green has been closed until Spring 2025, seems like an age away. However, that's not the end of bowling at the club. We have now rolled out the 'Short Mats' in the club house. Whilst this is broadly similar to the outdoor game in terms of scoring etc, although it does require a different skill set. And it's a great way to get familiar with the ins & outs of the game.
Both full playing members & social members are welcome to use the short mat facilities.
Why not pop down for a taster session & try your hand. Social membership also opens up access to the rest of the clubs events. Message me directly if you fancy having a go.

Faringdon Bowling Club

A very Happy New Year to all of the good citizens of Faringdon & surrounding villages. A new year has begun & our members at the club are waiting anxiously for the new outdoor bowling season to begin.
In the meantime, we are bowling indoors on the 'Short Mat'. Same rules, different format, still very enjoyable.
If you're new to the area, or ever wondered what bowls is all about, why not pop along & have a look, or better still, give it a go, you'll always be given a warm welcome & there's usually someone there who can show you what it's all about. And remember, it's not just an old persons sport, there are many younger players who enjoy the competitive side of the sport, and it is very competitive!
We have many other functions available, as well as the coffee mornings & whist nights, which are open to everyone, we have member only events also. Such as skittles evenings, race nights & even a casino night. There are Sunday lunch days and of course our regular Friday social nights in the bar.
The club is available also for private parties & functions.
So what are you waiting for? Pop along & check us out. We are located at the end of Gravel Walk Nr. To the 'Aunties Emporium' set back off of the road.
We look forward to meeting you.

Faringdon Bowling Club
End of term report

Hi everyone, so the outdoor season 2023 is all but over, with just a few friendly matches & the sponsored triples to go.
I have to say, it's been a really fun season with some great bowling. Although we didn't exactly cover ourselves in glory in all of the leagues, it would be fair to say that a good time was had by all. The league results are below.

In the club competitions there was some really, & I mean really good close bowling. It was good to see some of our new members really step up to the plate & give some of the old hands a run for their money. The winners & runners up results are below also.

For now, we will look forward to the 'Short Mat' season, with some internal competitions & hopefully some friendly matches against some local clubs.

Don't forget about the Friday night social nights & to look out for some special events. The whist evenings start soon and the regular coffee mornings will continue as usual.

See you all soon.

Faringdon Bowling Club

Good day fellow Faringdonians,
Easter Monday saw the opening of the Bowls Club green for the 1st time this year. The opening match was a 'President's Vs. Captain's challenge match.

With the green looking superb, the first challenge was 'The Spider'. Each player stands at the edge of the green with one foot in the 'ditch', & sends one bowl to a 'jack' in the centre of the green. Nearest to the jack wins a bottle of scotch. The winner was a new member, sorry, didn't get your name, but well done.

The main match began with a good amount of sunshine but a very strong wind. The green was quite hard going for most, being quite heavy to bowl on, but this will improve greatly as it gets used more. We had 1 triples & 4 four's, with the President's side prevailing on all 5 rinks. Well done to all who played.

The match was followed by a lovely tea.

All in all, a great start to the season.

And don't forget, if you'd like to pop along & check out Faringdon's hidden gem, you will be made most welcome. Bowls is a game for all ages & abilities & is great fun with some gentle exercise.

Faringdon Bowling Club

The new outdoor bowling season is fast approaching & will be on us before we know it. Green preparations are well under way to give us a great surface to bowl on. And believe me, having visited many other local clubs last season, Faringdon has one of the best, along with a great club house & other facilities.
So if you are interested in giving this great sport a try, you are very welcome to pop along & have a go. At the moment we are still rolling up on the 'short mat' indoors to keep our eyes in, but we'll soon be out on the green enjoying the peaceful surroundings, delightful grounds & wonderful company.
Hopefully see you there soon.
