🎉 We’re incredibly proud of what’s been happening at Festival Place Shopping Centre in Basingstoke, not just because multiple empty units have been brought back to life, but because local artists and makers have been given a genuine platform to be seen. And it’s been a true success story for all involved.

🖼️ Through our charity work at The Artist’s Window, we have been able to provide free space and publicity for 10 talented local artists, crafters and creative groups, who have been able to showcase and sell their work in a busy town-centre location, at zero cost.

🌈 The response from the public has been fantastic. The spaces have brought colour, energy and creativity into the centre, creating moments of discovery for visitors and helping empty units feel welcoming, vibrant and full of possibility. For all our artists, it’s been a chance to connect with new audiences and be part of something bigger.

🤝 Festival Place’s recent success is a brilliant example of what can happen when arts, community and place come together. We’re proud to have supported local creatives while helping make the centre feel more animated, more engaging and more connected to the people who use it every day.

Special thanks go to the endless creativity of our artist network:

📍We are looking for Arts organisations that might be able to make use of a huge empty retail space in central Redditch - for free!

Right now, we have access to a large number of empty retail spaces in central Redditch — including one huge, multi-level unit — and we’re really keen to see them brought back to life by the local community.

These empty spaces would work brilliantly for all types of Art organisations, who could benefit from extra space / free exposure to the local public. They could be used by:
- Art, photography or craft groups
- Theatre, choir, music or dance groups

They can be used for exhibitions, galleries, rehearsals, meetings and talks, workshops and events, storage, pop-up shops, and plenty more besides.

There’s no rent to pay. Our aim is simply to support local Arts organisations and put empty spaces to good use.

If your Art Group (or one you know) could benefit from this opportunity, please get in touch as soon as possible this week by emailing [email protected] for more information.

Spaces are available from the beginning of February!

Please feel free to tag and share this post — we’d love these spaces to be used by the local Redditch Arts community who can really make something special happen in them.

Thank you 💛

💌 From ArtCan, With Love... and it’s not too late!

On 2nd July, ArtCan hosted their much-anticipated annual postcard fundraiser at The ArtCan Hub, their gallery space in Angel Central, Islington.

🎨 Over 240 original postcard-sized artworks (each created and generously donated by ArtCan member artists) were hung for one night only, and made available for just £40 each.

It was an inspiring evening of art, community and opportunity, whilst raising funds to support future exhibitions and projects that keep independent, contemporary art alive and thriving.

📬 Missed the event? You’re in luck. There are still beautiful postcards available to buy online — each one a unique, affordable piece of art.

You can browse and purchase via the Exhibitions & Events tab at artcan.org.uk, or email [email protected] to check what’s still available.

And if you’re in London, come along to visit the ArtCan Hub in person and explore the full event programme:

🎨 LAST CHANCE to catch the vibrant world of !

Lesia Davidson’s showcase at Clyde Shopping Centre has almost come to an end — and trust us, you don’t want to miss it. Her space is bursting with colour and joy, featuring original acrylic paintings, stunning prints, and beautiful homeware.

Lesia is a self-taught artist who began painting after the birth of her son, and just one month later, completed 16 pieces for her first solo show in York. By Christmas, almost every piece had sold. ✨

Since then, she’s been featured in Landscape Artist of the Year, and continues to share her art through galleries and fairs across the UK.

This is her second time showcasing with The Artist’s Window, and we’re so proud to support her bold, beautiful vision once again.

🗓 Don’t wait — her time at Clyde is coming to a close!

✨ Things are buzzing at San Portablo Arts! ✨

Since moving into the old Officer’s Club unit at Aberafan Shopping Centre in November 2024, Helen John and her growing collective of creatives have been steadily transforming this once-empty space into a vibrant cultural hub for Port Talbot. Their recent activity in the space includes;

🎨 Welcoming three new artists, with three more enquiries in the pipeline — a real sign of the appetite for creative community in the area.

🎬 Facilitating new projects and events, including a local film production, a screening, and a potential mental health-focused arts programme currently in development.

Led by artist and educator Helen John, San Portablo Arts continues to offer a wide range of workshops and creative opportunities for all ages and abilities — from painting and sculpture to poetry, writing, and digital arts.

What started as an empty unit is now nurturing local talent and bringing new energy to the high street.

🎨🎸 Art meets music in Boston!

We’re thrilled to showcase two incredibly talented creatives at 18A Pescod Shopping Centre — where craftsmanship, colour, and community have come together in one beautiful space.

👨‍🎨 Paul Howard is a versatile artist and experienced teacher who paints across a range of styles and subjects. A lifelong art educator, he’s now sharing his skills through in-person art workshops at the space.

🎼 Kenn Gordon is a master luthier — crafting stunning hand-made guitars and instruments using traditional tools and time-honoured techniques. No machines. Just skill, wood, and soul. He’s also an author and independent music creator.

We introduced Paul and Kenn, and they are now side by side exhibiting paintings, guitars, books, CDs and more, in a space that feels as unique and handcrafted as the work inside.

🎨 Workshops.

🎙️ We were delighted to be featured on BBC Radio Berkshire recently, with our trustee Katy Ellis joining Phil Mercer to talk about a subject close to our hearts — the future of our high streets.

🎧 Listen to the Radio interview here ➡️ https://loom.ly/yfDXj3A

Across the UK, we're all seeing the same thing: closed shops, empty retail spaces, and communities slowly losing places to gather, create and connect.

🖼️ The Artist’s Window charity is working hard to reimagine these empty units as creative spaces, transforming them into vibrant hubs for all forms of The Arts - visual, performance, theatre, pottery, workshops, and poetry. Our creative partnerships allow local artists to grow, the public to connect and gain closer access to The Arts - and for landlords to do something meaningful with space that would otherwise sit there uninspired and unused.

🎉 Right now, we’re proud to be working in partnership with Festival Place in Basingstoke, where our latest creative projects are already making an impact!

Regeneration doesn’t always mean redevelopment — sometimes giving empty spaces a new purpose is all that's needed to breath new life into a community and give local people something to be inspired by.

🙏🏻 Thank you to BBC Radio Berkshire for helping us share our story — and to all the artists, partners, and places who make this possible.
