Fishing was once the lifeblood of Buckie, and the fishwives played a vital role in getting the catch from the harbour to the people inland.

These hardworking women carried creels weighing up to 40lbs of fish, walking many miles in all weathers. Their trade was often done by barter, exchanging fish for farm produce, and each fishwife would have her own route and regular customers.

The Buckie fishwives were known to walk as far as 26 miles to Keith and back. Mary Milne, the last traditional Buckie fishwife, continued the route until she retired at the age of 73 in the 1950s.

Today, you can follow in their footsteps on The Fishwives Path to Keith, a beautiful 13 mile route from Buckie to Keith, passing farms and crofts along the way and taking in views across the River Isla valley.

A lovely way to discover a little of the history behind the landscape.

Apparently coolcations are a thing!

According to the BBC "People used to come to Scotland and say, 'it's beautiful – shame about the weather'. Now they're coming for the weather."

We've enjoyed really pleasant temperatures throughout the summer in Findochty - and our grass stayed green too!

GOLF SPOTLIGHT
Steve and I are both keen golfers and one of our favorite courses is Hopeman. Just 45 minutes drive from Findochty, Hopeman offers 18 holes of rewarding golf, plus great views over the Moray Firth. The 12th hole was voted best Par3 in Scotland by Sky Golf. Paul Lawrie OBE , described the hole as “one of the best par 3s I have ever played”.

Our guests this week have been very lucky - lots of dolphin action between Findochty and Portknockie on Sunday, and the first aurora of the season on Monday!

September is a great time of year to visit this wee corner of Scotland - quieter beaches, still warm enough for fish and chips outside, and the chance to see dolphins and aurora!

PLACES TO VISIT:
We recently visited Moray Motor Museum in Elgin. I can't believe we've lived here for over 20 years and this was our first visit!

What a fantastic collection of cars! From a 1910 Daimler that was owned by the local Christie family, to vintage classics and Goodwood winners, and even a 1958 Bubble Car (my mum and dad had a white one!).

Open from 1st April to the end of October it's definitely worth a visit.

Hello!
We've had a few new likes lately so I thought we'd introduce ourselves!

We're Steve and Clare, originally from Oxford, we relocated to Scotland over 20 years ago. It was a total leap of faith - we bought our house off the internet, we hadn't even visited the village of Portknockie! It couldn't have worked out better - we loved it here from day one, and can't imagine living anywhere else.

We bought 4 Duke Street in Findochty in 2011, it had lain empty for 18 months and was in a state of disrepair. We worked tirelessly to totally renovate it and welcomed our first guests 6 months later.

Fifteen years later and we're still welcoming guests to Findochty, some have become regulars and some have become friends. And some have even moved here too!

Thanks to all our guests, past, present and future for allowing us to share our wonderful corner of the world with you!

Magnus makes it safely to Norway!

A young walrus who became something of a celebrity as he toured the Scottish coastline has now crossed the North Sea and arrived in Norway.
