Look at this little 'beauty' our colleague Dave Cashman almost fell over whilst doing a site visit this morning. We think it is a 'she', perhaps there is a herpetologist out there might be able to tell us if there is any way to differentiate a male from a female without getting too close! Bored with the lockdown? I'm looking forward to this. My topic is 'Dumb arboriculture; time to think our way out of the dark ages'. I won't be holding back!! Here is a summary of the main points:

Text books are interesting, often not because of their content, but because of the writer’s mindset. Authors frequently regurgitate previous ‘wisdom’, and if that is wrong the myths perpetuate and the fools blindly follow. Therein lies Arboriculture’s biggest challenge, dispelling the old wives' tales about pruning, planting, and risk management. Is it time to throw away the books and start thinking instead? I’ll tell you my view, you decide for yourselves.

There is an undeniable scientific consensus that we need more trees, and the planting must start now. If there is serious intent to turn aspiration into reality, then ministerial oversight must be applied. The current farce of weak policies saying all the right things but delivering absolutely nothi...
