Situated on the most southern tip of Loch Ness on the Great Glen Way, Fort Augustus is a popular tourist destination. Lying on the impressive 60 mile long Caledonian Canal, halfway between Inverness and Fort William, Fort Augustus offers spectacular views down Loch Ness and is a paradise for keen walkers and cyclists with many beautiful walks around the area, the most popular being the Great Glen Way. At Fort Augustus visitors can also enjoy a visit to the Caledonian Canal Heritage Centre which details the history of the canal. Sit and watch the boats navigating the locks or explore the Clansmen Centre, where appropriately attired guides demonstrate 17th century clan weaponry. Visitors can explore the surrounding countryside by cruising Loch Ness, home to the world-famous Loch Ness monster, or take a trip to nearby Urquhart Castle, a classic romantic ruin jutting out into the loch. Both Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, and Fort William, ‘the Outdoor Capital of the UK’, are less than an hour’s drive and the famous Eilean Donan Castle, reputedly the most photographed castle in Scotland, is equally accessible at around an hour’s drive.
RIVENDELL COTTAGE is a luxury two-bedroomed self-contained ground floor apartment in the grounds of the main house – RIVENDELL.
The Cottage has been lovingly up-dated and modernised during the winter of 2019/20 and is now ready again for guests.
The cottage is located on the edge of FORT AUGUSTUS, the heart of the Scottish Highlands, a two minute drive from where Loch Ness connects through a series of five locks to the Caledonian Canal.
