A BRIEF HISTORY OF BOSCREGE VILLA
We have been told that the original house dates from around 1730 and was originally a mine captain's house. It came with the role of managing the copper and tin mines in the Boscrege area.
Our neighbour's house, to the south-west of the villa, was the Count House, which served as the administrative office for the mining site.
The villa also had a smithy and an explosives store on the site. Both buildings still have walls standing in situ. The two closest mine shafts are located in the land behind the property, within the wooded area. There is not much to see today apart from a few ivy-covered blocks of stone hidden in the undergrowth.
Great Works Mine, approximately half a mile north of the site, has been partially restored and gives visitors an idea of the mining activity that once took place here.
There are several interesting stones around the barn building and in the parking area. Our favourite is the stamping stone that we now use as a bird bath.
