Get ready for another massive weekend in Girvan! 🌊 If you’re looking for plans, this is exactly where you need to be for an amazing lineup of events.

Here is what is coming up:

🏃‍♂️ Girvan Prom Parkrun – Kick off your weekend with a friendly 5k along the seafront on Saturday at 9:30 AM.

🥔 Girvan Tattie Fest & Fringe – Family fun at The Wave on Dalrymple Street at 11am. Head over to Louisa Drive from 1 PM to 5 PM for the 5th anniversary celebration of the Ayrshire tattie. Expect a circus big top, giant kites, a silent disco, live music, and plenty of family fun. Girvan Community Garden are hosting live music, tattie food and a Gin Bar.

🎶 Music On The Prom Girvan – The summer concert season officially launches on Sunday from 1 PM to 4:30 PM with free live entertainment (at 3pm) right by the water.

The Boating Pond and Biosphere bikes will be open too and remember the exhibitions at The McKechnie!

Join artist Margaret Johnston for a relaxed and inspiring day exploring portrait painting in oils. Whether you're looking to develop your skills or simply enjoy a creative day out, this workshop is suitable for all levels.

What a great couple of weekends in store for us in and around Girvan. Starting with the wonderful Festival of Ballantrae on Saturday 6th June - good food, good music - that is after you've finished the Girvan Park Run (walking is allowed too 😉)! On Sunday 7th please don't miss the 43rd Carrick Lowland Gathering - enjoy the sounds of the pipe bands and the sights of the Highland dancing and people doing crazy things with tree trunks. Stumpy Jail will be open - have a look inside and visit the actual cells where prisoners were kept 😬. The Girvan Tattie Fest is back on June 13th with lots of fringe events. Through it all, the Girvan Tourist Information & Craft Shop will be open with friendly help and advice 12-4pm every day - check out the newly refurbished Knockcushan Garden just behind. Alternatively, just stroll along the harbour enjoying the beautiful views.

On my way home tonight I couldn't resist a pic of the harbour - it was such a lovely evening. I had been to a screening of a short film called Ballantrae's Smuggling History, commissioned by the Ballantrae History Society and produced and directed by Epic Sky Media. The film was based on the huge amount of research carried out by Frances Wilkins about the the Ballantrae Smugglers. I can't begin to tell you how good the film is - Roger Hunter and Craig Bradshaw spoke about how they produced the film. An absolutely riveting evening, part of the Girvan Arts Festival . If you get the chance to see the film - jump at it.

Please sign up to become a member. The town could really do with this large event space and The South cannot go ahead without local people supporting them by becoming members. It won't cost you anything but it will mean they are one step nearer to purchasing the building 😊

A wee community shoutout 📣

The South Parish team are currently working towards a community purchase application through the Scottish Land Fund, and one of the requirements is to grow their membership numbers within the local area.

Joining is really simple, there’s no obligation to vote, and members are welcome to attend the AGM and have their say if they wish.

They’ll also be at the Arts Festival and the Lowland Gathering if you’d like to chat to them in person 😊
