Been on the edge of Glaisdale we really do get to see stunning skies here on the North Yorkshire Moors
We’re thrilled to join in celebrating the certification of its 250th International Dark Sky Place, a global milestone that shines a light on the importance of keeping our skies naturally dark.
As an International Dark Sky Reserve, the North York Moors National Park is proud to be part of this growing worldwide network of protected places, from the deserts of Namibia to the moorlands of Yorkshire, all working to preserve the beauty of the night sky for people and wildlife alike.
Every dark sky protected area helps:
🌿 Create sanctuaries for nocturnal wildlife
🪶 Protect cultural and natural heritage
🔭 Inspire stargazers, storytellers, and scientists
Together, these 250 sites protect over 196,000 square kilometres of land where the stars still shine bright. Let’s keep looking up, protecting our night, and sharing the wonder of the cosmos, right here in the North York Moors.
