How did you do in Q1?

As Peter Drucker intimated, ‘what gets measured, gets managed’

We did ok in Q1.

Property-wise, we hit 5 from 7, with the 2 misses likely to be completed in April.

Some of the other businesses took a step back, but I’m ok with that.

Because, to hit you with another quote, ‘Where focus goes, energy flows’.

And to me that means if you focus on everything, nothing moves.

We completed on our biggest purchase to date, almost 3 times as much as anything else we’ve bought before.

It was stressful getting it over the line, and no doubt even more stress to bring it to where we want it to be.

But, now it is over the line, there’s a bit more space to reset, refocus and see what needs our attention for the next Quarter.

The coaching and training business will be getting a bit more focus, as well as getting trades in place to largely complete the transformation of the Guest House by the end of June.

It’s been a minute….

I’ve been MIA on here for a few weeks.

And the reason is because I found the World all a bit too noisy.

People bothered about looking good rather than doing good.

Wars starting, insults and lies being thrown about left, right and centre in the media.

Not to mention, having a busy month of work across multiple businesses.

So, I actively stepped away for a bit.

And I feel much better for it.

Less drama, less anxiety, and more focus on what I can control.

Albeit, I’ve had a little bit of guilt for doing this as ‘real’ business owners need to always be present on all platforms, right?

Well, if you feel a bit like me, know it’s ok to step away from the noise for a bit and the likelihood is, your business will keep moving forward.

And, more importantly, I’m sure you’ll feel better for it.

P.S. I get the irony by the way

If you treat investors like ATMs, they’ll eventually stop dispensing.

But if you treat them like partners, and protect their interests as fiercely as your own - they’ll stay with you for life.

When we started investing we had negative savings...
That's right, in other words, we had debt.

£20k on credit cards with zero savings.

And one thing that really helped us was learning how to raise private investment, something we've been ok at.

We followed these three tips religiously and money came out of places we never expected.

1. Let people know what you do
2. Show them how you can help
3. Do it again, and again.

We followed that religiously. And money came from places we never expected.

So yeah, you can sit there thinking, “It’s alright for him” or “I don’t know anyone with money” and keep telling yourself that.

But you know deep down they are just excuses.

Start thinking differently about the value you bring and start talking to people.

You need to believe there are people out there who would love to either help you or get a better return on their money than they are currently.

6 Years ago I did a skydive…

Despite hating heights.

It was a metaphor for stepping away from my job, and taking that leap despite the fear.

I left a few months later.

Since then, we started created a community and that experience has helped me help others do the same.

Danny, Dan, Jen, Brian, Jacqui, Timur, Johanna.

All work with us and left their jobs in the past couple of years.

All different circumstances, and not something they managed to do overnight.

But success leaves clues.

I know what it takes to step away, and can support those to walk a similar path.

And despite the stresses, there’ll be no regrets.

However, you have to earn the right to step away.

You have to put in the work.

One thing I know is that life is the culmination of the experiences you have.

And so, I don't think we were meant to go to school and work for 60 hour weeks, sacrificing 60 years of our life to hope we get a bit of time at the end to enjoy for our own.

I mean it's not the plan you would choose for yourself right?

If you're not where you want to be right now, what needs to change to get you there.

That was the question I asked myself 10 years ago as I was becoming a father for the first time.

Property was the answer.

Property isn't get rich quick, but it does reduce your dependency on your job over the long term

Every BTL, every flip, every deal, took us one step closer to not needing the job that kept us prisoner to our own freedom.

Now we help others do the same through our More Than Property community.

No egos in the room, just people wanting to help each other like a.rising tide lifting all boats.
