John McKellar was a titan in West End tenement architecture, responsible for swathes of property across Hyndland, including our very own Lauderdale Gardens. Between 1890 and 1910, his company was responsible for more than 640 tenement buildings - even encouraging their tenants to buy their own homes with deposits and quarterly payments which was unheard of at that time!
