It's a fabulous year for pears. The hot sunny weather creates brilliant sugar levels in the fruit and the excellent deep roots of a pear tree help the tree thrive even in drought conditions. We were proud to be able to speak to Tom Jeffreys at The Telegraph in more detail about perry pears, growing them, and making perry from them. 🍐
Perry is itself a whole world with as much complexity, mystery and flavours as cider, or indeed wine or beer. 🍎 Yet it is so difficult to find due to the impracticalities of producing it and the not insignificant challenges of growing the pears.
