Day 11.

I nearly forgot to do todays post!

I went back to the house on Saturday and laid the floor, which gave me a nice easy day today, finishing all the bits. All that's left to do is fit the quartz upstands under the boiler.
I've had to box it so that it's removable because there are serviceable parts there, but also in such a way that the upstands are fixed permanently.

I had a big tidy up too, this afternoon.

Another fantastic looking kitchen!

On to the next job!

Day ten!

Ten days ago I set the very ambitious target of fitting a good size kitchen in just ten working days. The project involved a full refurbishment, boiler move and quartz worktops too.

How did we do? Well, with the exception of the flooring, plinths and a couple of other bits, it's done! A fully functional kitchen.

It wasn't easy, the boiler caused us quite a headache when it wouldn't fire, plus it had a few leaks too, from old seals that dried up while the boiler was off the wall, there was quite a bit of unit fabrication too, so the fit took slightly longer than I expected.

The kitchen is Clerkenwell super matt navy, from Howdens in Oldham. The tops are Ambiente Cemento from HM Granite in Mossley.

A fantastic transformation, it looks brilliant!

I always promise a two week turnaround, and I've never missed a deadline or a start date! Ordinarily I'd work tomorrow to meet my deadline, but next week I start a small kitchen, which I'm going to start on Tuesday, so I can go back to this job on Monday. Fortunately, the customers on this job are still on holiday, so I've got an empty house!

On Monday I'll post pictures of the kitchen, complete.

Day nine. We're nearly there!

HM Granite have, as usual, worked their magic and fitted their tops within 24 hours of templating! Outstanding service! The upstands and hob splash back are being fitted tomorrow.

Paul the spark was back too. All the sockets are now live and appliances powered up. Just the lighting and hob to finish, tomorrow.

I've made fair progress too. My biggest job today was a head scratcher. With an awkward corner, two wine racks and a wine cooler, I had to fabricate a whole corner. I've done it so that it'll have quartz over the cooler. The fridges are half done too.

Right at the last minute I changed my mind about how to box the boiler, so I've asked Howdens to try and get me a different wall unit. Hopefully they'll deliver!

Tomorrow is the final push. Get everything finished, and get the floor down too!

If you need quartz, HM are the boys! 01457 833550 ask for Paul or Stuart.

Day eight.

Well, I've been super busy today, but the kitchen looks almost the same as it did when I got there this morning!

Although it looks almost the same, the stage is set for a huge transformation tomorrow. The quartz has been templated and the spark is back tomorrow, too. The next two days is when the magic happens! 🪄

Stay tuned!

Day seven.

A mixed bag today. We had a nightmare with the boiler which wouldn't fire up but wasn't showing any fault codes, which it should if there's a fault, obviously! It turned out to be a bad connection on the reciever for the programmer. Anyway, it's all up and running again.

The delay in firing the boiler meant I couldn't fit the base units underneath until lunchtime, the knock on meant we couldn't template.

The job's moved on though, and we're still on track, just!

The quartz is being templated in the morning.

Hopefully I'll have a more productive day, tomorrow.

Day six (point five)..

Yesterday, Saddleworths very own Rembrandt, Dave Walsh 07931681051, called at the job and painted the kitchen. It's now nice and bright!

This morning, Mr Jagger and myself were back on site, Mark to re-fit the boiler and finish his first fix, myself, to start fitting the kitchen, which arrived complete and undamaged.

We were graced with dry weather today so I could leave most of the appliances and bigger items outside until the end of the day. As you can see, we're now a bit tight for space. It's a bit like the sliding tile game!

Tomorrow, Mark will commission the heating, and I'll get a spurt on in an attempt to get the kitchen ready for quartz templating, hopefully tomorrow afternoon!

We should have some order by the end of play, tomorrow.

Day five.

Let's get plastered!

The best plasterers in the world were on site today!
As you can see, the bags of plaster that were sat on the floor, are now stuck on the walls and ceiling!

A complete re-skim, apart from behind the base units.

It's perfectly normal for the plaster to be a bit patchy just after it's applied.

Next job is painting. Dave is booked for Sunday to wallop the room in contract emulsion.

Back to the plasterers. If you need any plastering, Tony is your man! 07971 391200

Day four.

Not a lot to post about today I'm afraid. I went to the house this morning and opened up the wall where the boiler is being refitted. It needed extra timbers in, to fix to. I core drilled a new hole too, for the flue

Tony Stott, the plasterer, called today and painted all the walls with a type of glue (pva). Pva helps the plaster to stick to the old walls, which currently have very little suction. The ceiling is fine because it's new board.

Tony is back tomorrow, with Brendan and Pete. This time tomorrow, the room will be brand new!

Day three.

Today, the plumber (and local celebrity) Mark Jagger paid us a visit.

We replaced and upgraded the 10mm pipes that were feeding the old radiator. The plinth heater will be fed by 15mm pipes.

The boiler was removed, ready for relocation, and other plumbing was tidied up. We had a bit of a nightmare with a faulty stop tap that needed replacing, we couldn't find the outside stop tap. We eventually found it, about 30 yards from the house!

There's a temporary water supply for the plasterers, who are booked for tomorrow, but let's see what the weather brings!

If you need a plumber, Mark is your man - 07710 244315.

Following on from yesterday..

Today, the electrician (Paul Dalton 07788 607471) came and did his first fix.

We've completely rewired the kitchen, nothing was salvageable. We've wired for dimable downlights and a dimable feature light that will hang over the peninsula. We've wired for under unit lighting too.

There was previously only two double sockets. We've now got five sockets, two of which will have USBs.
The wires for the appliances are all coiled up, tidy, and will be run about, once the base units are in position.

I've got a few holes to patch. This house is about twenty years old and is timber framed, which can be a pain, but hey ho! I'll patch them tomorrow.

The room looks very much the same in the pictures, but isnt! I've taken a picture of a grid switch, which I hate, and the second picture shows a 6mm cable feeding a 2.5mm, which is then feeding a 1mm cable. A huge no no!

Tomorrow, the plumber pays us a visit!

If you're thinking of having a new kitchen in the next twelve months, you might want to give this page a like or a follow.

Over the next ten working days, I'm going to do something that I doubt anyone has ever done before; I'm going to post daily updates on a kitchen, that we started this morning, in Dobcross.

We are laying ourselves wide open to scrutiny, and anybody is welcome to publicly ask questions as the job progresses.

The schedule is as follows -
Day one (today) kitchen out, ceiling down, floor coverings- up. All pictured, below.

Tomorrow- Tuesday. The electrician will come and do all his alterations and upgrades.

Wednesday will see the plumber do his alterations, which on this job, involves a slight relocation of the boiler to a more suitable location, and swapping a radiator for a plinth heater. I will then re-board the ceiling.

On Thursday, the plasterers will do their preparation for..

Friday, when the room will be completely re-plastered.

The kitchen will dry over the weekend, and will then be painted.

Next Monday (12th) the new kitchen will be delivered from Howdens at Oldham, and will take four days to fit.

This job has quartz worktops. HM Granite are booked to template next Wednesday, and will hopefully fit their tops on Thursday.

Next Friday I will lay the flooring, and finish off any other bits.

I always promise a two week turnaround, this is the first time I've ever done it publicly!

Daily updates will only be available on this page, because I'll get banned if I post on all the community pages, every day!

Thank you!

Martha and Nigel's Kitchen.

In August, our team had the pleasure of working for Martha and Nigel, in their lovely house in Delph.

The kitchen is a fair size, with with quite high ceilings.

Over a period of 12 working days, we removed the old freestanding kitchen, dropped the ceiling and did some remedials on the old fireplace. The wiring was completely replaced, all the surface mounted pipes were hidden and the room was completely re-plastered. We arranged for the painter to visit on the Sunday, the day before the kitchen was delivered. The kitchen was then fitted over the next five working days, and then a revisit was required to fit the plinths, after the flooring was fitted.

The room looks sensational!

Thank you to Martha and Nigel for looking after us, keeping us hydrated with Yorkshire tea, and plenty of biscuits! Nigel, a big thank you to you too, for letting me use your photographs, and, leaving a fantastic review!
