If, like us, you like nothing more than a stomp through the glorious Surrey hills, we have another hidden gem for you. 🌿

Tucked between The Chantries and St Martha’s, just outside Guildford and right on the North Downs Way, is goldenfords a café that has quickly become a favourite with walkers and locals.

We know this part of Surrey pretty well. Spending our days driving around the lanes, villages and towns with clients means we’re constantly discovering the places that make an area that little bit more special.

And this is one of them.

It’s perfectly placed for a rest stop after a walk through one of the most beautiful parts of the North Downs, and there’s more on offer than just coffee.

It’s these little gems that we think add so much to an area when you’re considering a move. Because where you live isn’t just about the house, it’s about all the things you can do, discover and enjoy on your doorstep.

So, if you’re exploring the Guildford area, add goldenfords to your list. And take the walking boots too. 🥾🌳

If you spend as much time on the road as we do, house hunting and touring clients around Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex, knowing your pit stops is essential!

If we’re in the patch north of Farnham, heading into Hampshire, we have another little gem up our sleeve…

Penn Croft Vineyard in Crondall. 🍇

The vineyard itself is beautiful, but what makes Penn Croft Vineyards particularly useful for us is the Cellar Door Café. It’s somewhere we go with clients all the time, a great place to stop for a coffee, lunch or a glass of wine, and a chance to take five minutes out of the house-hunting circuit and enjoy the surroundings.

We’ve also been to some of their evening events where they have visiting food trucks such as Elio’s Pizza, Sprinkle Of Saffron & Little Fish Sushi, which are all delicious.

It’s exactly the sort of place we love discovering and sharing with clients: somewhere that gives you a real sense of what living in this part of the world is all about.

Have you discovered the Old Coal Yard in Hambledon yet?

This is one of those places we think more people should know about.

Tucked away just outside Hambledon, the Old Coal Yard has become a brilliant little community of independent businesses, makers and creatives and it’s exactly the sort of place we love championing.

You can pop in and discover 𝔍𝔢𝔴𝔢𝔩𝔩𝔢𝔡 for beautiful bespoke jewellery, GARDEN GATE for interiors and garden pieces, SUSIE WIGG Interiors for beautiful soft furnishings, The Botanical Co for flowers, Timeout BeautyTherapy Hamilton for beauty and aesthetics, Radiant Pilates Studio for Pilates, Kelly Theaker for hair and for locally made gin.

There’s also Number 15 Gallery and Victoria’s Beautique, alongside lots of other small businesses and creatives.

And that’s what we love about it.

It isn’t a chain of shops or a polished retail park. It’s a collection of properly independent businesses, each with their own story, talent and personality, all tucked into this lovely corner of the Surrey countryside.

These are the places that make our part of the world feel special and why we’re always keen to share our favourite local finds rather than keeping them to ourselves!

📍 Old Coal Yard, Hambledon

Definitely one for your local little black book.

A little West Sussex gem you should know about.

Just outside Petworth, tucked away from the bustle of the town, is Makers Barn and it’s exactly the sort of place we love discovering and sharing with you.

It’s a beautiful barn filled with the work of over 100 independent makers and craftspeople, many from the local area. Think ceramics, baskets, textiles, woodwork, jewellery, metalwork and all those beautifully made things that you don’t find on the high street.

What we particularly love is that it feels genuinely connected to the place. These aren’t mass-produced products with a Sussex label attached they’re made by real people, often using traditional rural skills, and buying something means supporting an independent maker.

It’s a lovely example of what makes West Sussex living so special: beautiful countryside, brilliant independent businesses and a real sense of community.

And if you need an excuse to visit, Meet the Makers Day is coming up on Saturday 5 September. There’ll be 20+ makers demonstrating their crafts, with opportunities to have a go yourself, plus live music, food and drinks. Entry is free and it’s open from 9am–7pm.

📍 Makers Barn, A272 Horsham Road, Petworth

Put it on your list, we think it’s one of those places that makes you feel very lucky to live in this part of the world.

As you know if you follow us, we absolutely love where we live, and one of our greatest pleasures is helping others move to this part of the world.

We’ve been talking recently about just how exciting the new openings of restaurants, cafés, entertainment spaces, wellness destinations and sports facilities are and how much they are adding to the area.

Wellness, culture, food and pleasure combined are making Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex an even better place to live.

So, rather than gatekeep all the best our area has to offer, we thought we’d share some of the new ‘spots’ we think you need to know about.

We’re starting with , which has been open for a few months now and is already hugely popular.

Fantastic facilities, a beautiful café and a lovely place to spend a few hours. We think it should definitely be a stop on your next day out in the area.

And this is just the beginning… we’ll be sharing more of our favourite new openings and local finds over the coming weeks. 👀

A local hang-glider shared these pictures of the countryside near Guildford, Surrey.

The first picture is July the second is May.

Unsurprisingly the summer has changed the overall look of this stunning countryside but the beautiful landscape we get to live in is undeniable.

Another beautiful Surrey evening. What a summer we are having!

Today we are talking ‘right sizing’ rather than downsizing.

We talk in our blog about why it’s the better term for what the majority of our clients, who are selling family homes are doing and why Surrey in particular is often chosen as the areas that offers connectivity without compromise.

Most of these clients are also choosing to be close to grown children, who are in London but allowing enough distance to live their own lives to the fullest too.
