Good news, home ownership is still affordable! You just need 7.6 people to buy it together.
Did you know that average house prices are now around 7.6 times average earnings? Which means if you’re a single parent looking to buy a home you could find another 6 adults to share the house with to make it very affordable!
Ridiculous? Yes, yet that’s what the maths is suggesting.
The gap between incomes and house prices has grown so wide in previous years to know that many full-time working people are being priced out of the market and the possibility of ownership altogether. Many single parents in particular are finding it increasingly difficult to provide appropriate and comfortable shelter for their children.
That’s why at the UK Single Family Housing Conference brought together important conversations between investors, developers, housing providers, operators and industry leaders to discuss the challenges of housing supply, planning reform, affordability, land availability and the future of residential development. All these discussions are vital in addressing the increasing need for affordable housing in the UK and helping to in future minimise the adverse effects of high housing prices such as increased homelessness and poverty rates.
It’s all about creating housing solutions that work for the people trying to live with them, because ‘just find another six people’ isn’t a housing strategy.
