🏰 Visiting 30 Castles in Northumberland 🏰
Did you know Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England? We tried to visit them all in 2023.
Apparently we have over 70 to choose from 😱 Although Wikipedia lists 48.
After going through the list, I have put together a list of the 30 most viable Castles to visit as I don't think it's wise for me to visit / promote visiting the castles which are a private residence/cannot be viewed without entering private property and personally, I don't want to visit castles that are just a lump in the ground as this is too boring 😅 .
Here's my list:
🏰Alnwick (entry fee applies - visit in Spring for daffodil display, opens March)
🏰Aydon (closed in winter, free for EH members, dog friendly - this may have changed now so do check )
🏰Bamburgh (entry fee applies, dogs welcome in grounds)
🏰Bellister Castle (can view exterior only from nearby walks, dog friendly)
🏰Belsay (visit in Spring for flowers, dog friendly in grounds, free for EH members)
🏰Berwick (free entry)
🏰Blenkinsopp Castle (free ruin, dog friendly)
🏰Cartington Castle (free ruin, dog friendly)
🏰Chillingham (entry fee applies, visit in October for ghosts 👻)
