I have been established as an Interior Designer in Harpenden for over 25 years. Having studied textile design I went to work for Laura Ashley and studied for a degree in Interior Design before starting my own business in 1990. The majority of my work has been in private homes however I have also undertaken the refurbishment of commercial properties. While I am passionate about my work I do not impose my ideas upon my clients, I take on board the clients requirements and preferences and interpret these, working their ideas into practical beautiful interiors.

Not had the best weekend as have come down with the most awful cold 🤧 it’s my son’s Birthday Friday so need it to get gone quickly.

My favourite thing to do is to visit new places, shop beautiful independant shops and eat good food . So our recent visit to Rye ticked all the boxes and more.

It is so inspiring to find a town with no chains and so much creativity. I absolutely loved it, art galleries, vintage shops, antiques and never knowing what you will discover in a shop is so much much more exciting.

So much inspiration in one place, I wish we had similar here, but sadly rents are too high making it so hard for independants to survive.

Such wise words Dolly. I certainly have not regretted starting my own business but it isn’t how I planned. as I left my job at Laura Ashley to go into partnership with another local lady who once I had left my job, decided she was going to buy a house instead of rent premises with me. So rather than me take my Business to her property I decided to go it alone. I’ve not regretted it for a moment, but I do really miss working with others.

Anyone else miss working with others and get bored of your own company? I make sure I book in lots of lunches and dog walks with friends to keep me sane.

This is literally my favourite part of the job! I just love bringing a room together with the final pieces.

Always important to think about texture, height, heights and quantities. My mum was a window dresser and I used to dress the windows at Laura Ashley , and I still love a bit of styling .

Wow take a week off and I’ve been watching my followers drop ! This platform is tough, but I’ve spent my time off getting lots of lovely inspiraton in beautiful Rye. I really was so inspired by this lovely town full of independent shops and restaurants. I shall be posting more about my top places to visit.
