These new taxes on developers will inevitably be paid for by reduced land prices. That means they are a tax on prudent land owners to cover negligent Building and Fire Regulations. Not the best solution as it could reduce the supply of homes if land owners wont sell at low enough prices to enable developers to afford these taxes. New taxes make it more likely that corners might be cut to reduce costs elsewhere in a build project resulting in an inferior product.

The Government should think again and consider taking responsibility for their own Building Regulations and Fire Regulations, which allowed this lethal cladding to be used.

The government has released limited details of two new taxes introduced to provide funds for addressing the cladding problem on high rise tower blocks and lower sized apartment blocks.
