It is my personal belief that the only way to deal with the horrific actions of Putin and his cronies is by isolating Russia in its entirety and hit them as hard as possible. Politically, economically and logistically.

With immediate effect, Histoglass and Brouns & Co will not supply any Russian-owned or Russian-funded projects. Both companies are only a tiny player in the big scheme of things and I am under no illusion that our actions will make a difference, if any. However, we have ongoing work in London for which our products are specified and we can make it as difficult as possible for Russians to operate normally. I choose to not be part of the majority who did nothing.

We all can choose not to deal with Russian suppliers, clients, banks and individuals. All together we CAN make a difference. If this happened to the UK or the Netherlands, I would hope other people would do the same.

We are at the brink of something potentially catastrophic, not just for Ukraine but also Europe and even the world. Democracy was hard-won and deserves fighting for.

LEEDS CITY COLLEGE / ALF COOKE PRINTWORKS

Our Thin Double Glazing D13 (13-14mm), with clear and toughened float glass was chosen to be used throughout this superb refurbishment of Leeds Printworks on Hunslet Road.

It offers the very latest in thermal insulation as well as the high-performance acoustic insulation which is essential for such a busy location.

This distinctive Grade-II listed building, constructed in 1895, was designed by Thomas Ambler for Alf Cooke’s printing works. The site became derelict when the works closed in 2005, but reopened in 2013 as Leeds City College’s Printworks Campus – part of a £25m project including several new adjacent buildings.

The Printworks is one of Leeds’ historic landmarks, thanks in particular to its iconic clock tower and serried rows of large arched windows.

At the height of Victorian manufacturing, the amount of light and fresh air they permitted would have been unusual; indeed, the building was described shortly after it was built as “the largest, cleanest, healthiest… printing works in the world”.

The windows are therefore essential to the overall character of the building, and were a key consideration in its refurbishment.

QUEENS HOUSE LONDON

Arguably the most important building in the entire canon of British architectural history” (Jane Sidell, Historic England), this shockingly modern building – for its time – was designed by Inigo Jones and commissioned by Anne of Denmark.

Queens House is now part of the Royal Museums Greenwich complex. It houses a stunning collection of paintings, including one by Orazio Gentileschi from the Royal Collection, commissioned by Henrietta Maria and Charles I for the house in the seventeenth century.

The new exhibition also includes hundreds of paintings from the Greenwich collection, including works by Canaletto, Hogarth, Romney and Stubbs, and the magnificent Armada portrait of Elizabeth I, once owned by Sir Francis Drake.

In order to help protect these masterpieces, we supplied our MONO system featuring cylinder glass, including UV and solar protection and increased security ratings. The system achieves an impressive acoustic and thermal energy performance.
