Welcome to Follow that Duck

From Friday 24th June Hastings and Rother will offer nesting sites for 30 large Rubber Duck sculptures and 21 smaller Rubber Ducklings, creating a live art trail from Hastings Old Town to Bexhill on Sea. This fun, free, family friendly event will create an art gallery of fabulous creativity and inspiration within our local communities.

The Follow that Duck trail maps and the Follow that Duck app will both be available from Monday 20th June. The App can be downloaded from your App store, maps picked up from a wide range of venues along the trail route – grab your copy and wend your way along the coast – can you find all the Ducks?

Our story

The Observer Building (OB) is a landmark property in Hastings, built in 1924 as the offices and print works for the local newspaper, the Hastings &
St Leonards Observer. The building closed in
1985 and became increasingly derelict. Since then various owners have made money out of buying and selling it without doing any repairs.
The OB forms a key part of a wider collaborative community-led regeneration in the White Rock neighbourhood of Hastings. Known as the Hastings Commons, it is an ecosystem of connected organisations, buildings and
tenants that has already successfully renovated Rock House, Rose Cottage and other difficult local buildings. We do this through ‘commoning’, taking action together for the common good.

Be part of the new OB

The Observer Building will begin to open from August 2022 so now’s your chance to take a space as one of the very first tenants in this inspirational building. Come and help us shape the future of the Hastings Commons!
The OB will continue to develop over the coming years to eventually include homes, restaurants, cafés and bars as well as all kinds of workspace. All our rents are capped to remain affordable for the long term. To express interest in any of the spaces drop in to one of the Open Days coming up this month.
