Designed to allow the architecture and landscape to take centre stage, the structural glass balustrade of this staircase supports triple laminated, low iron glass treads to create a striking sculptural feature.

Perched high on the Welsh coast, the family home enjoys uninterrupted views across the Irish Sea. The use of glass gives the staircase a remarkably light visual presence, allowing those views to remain the focus.

For this new build home, Bisca created a flowing staircase through a triple-height hall, balancing sculptural form with a pre-defined layout. The result combines aged bronze, walnut and dark stained oak in a refined, cohesive design.

How do you create a bronze surface with real depth and character?

Working through layer after layer to achieve the desired texture and tone, our craftsman carefully develops the bronze for a client’s staircase balustrade.

Once the coating has been applied, the surface is sanded through multiple grades, with each stage carefully refining the texture before being waxed and buffed by hand.

It’s a meticulous process, but it’s this attention to detail at every stage that gives the bronze its distinctive character and reflects the level of care that goes into every aspect of a Bisca staircase.

For our client, this beautiful Cumbrian home deserved a staircase that felt as special as the space itself, with a glamorous descent that would make an impression on everyone who entered.

Curved glass, floating Corian treads and concealed lighting come together beneath a dramatic triple height window, creating a staircase that feels light, fluid and almost weightless.

The smallest details can make the biggest difference.

At Bisca, quality is built into every stage of the process, right down to the finishing touches.

Here, our craftsman is meticulously sanding the oak handrail before bringing it into perfect alignment with a beautifully forged bronze newel. A seemingly small detail, but one that gives this Georgian-inspired staircase its sense of refinement and character.

From the warmth of the oak to the character of the hand-forged bronze, every element has a role to play in creating a staircase that feels truly its own.

Things are sliding into place in Barton-on-Sea.

Bisca’s first slide is rapidly taking shape, with the stringers in place, the central coil fitted and every tread fixed. There’s been plenty of sanding, welding, staining and oiling along the way, all while our craftsmen work through the blustery coastal conditions overlooking the Isle of Wight.

It’s been a busy few days, but seeing this extraordinary staircase twist, turn and glide into its new home makes all the hard work worthwhile.
