“But I’ve got no annual leave left!” 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well… do you know you can still have a proper little Cornish escape? 🩵

Yes, Penty Myghal has a 3-night minimum stay, but you can arrive from 4pm on Friday and stay as late as you like on Sunday – so you can squeeze in a whole weekend away without taking a single day off work.

Imagine…

🍻 Friday evening – arrive, unpack and head straight to the Ship Inn for a drink and something to eat.

🌊 Saturday – a leisurely day exploring the Lizard, discovering beautiful beaches, coastal walks and perhaps a Cornish ice cream or two.

🍽️ Sunday – no rushing around. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at Amélie’s, wander around the harbour and then head home feeling like you’ve actually had a proper holiday.

Three nights, two full days of exploring and no annual leave required!

🚶‍♀️ “How far is it to the harbour?”

It’s probably one of the questions I’m asked most often, and the answer is about 100 yards – roughly a 2-minute walk from Penty Myghal. 🩵

But rather than just telling you, I thought I’d show you!

I’ve walked from the Harbour Head to the patio at Penty Myghal and put together a little speeded-up video so you can see exactly how close we are.

A couple of minutes is all it takes to go from your home from home to the harbour, with Porthleven’s cafés, pubs, restaurants & shops all waiting to be explored. 🏡🌊🩵

🐾 A question from the Head of Marketing… 🐾

As some of you know, I’m originally from the Middle East, so technically I’m a desert dog. You’d think that would make me a big fan of hot summer holidays, wouldn’t you? ☀️

Well… I’m not entirely sure.

I do enjoy a sunny day at the beach, especially when there’s plenty of sand to lie on and lots of interesting smells to investigate. 🏖️

But I also rather enjoy my winter walks along the coast path, when the beaches are quieter, the temperatures are cooler and there’s plenty of exciting weather to sniff out. 🌊🍂

So I’ve decided I need to know…

Which do you prefer?

☀️ Summer holidays – sunshine, beaches & long evenings

🌊 Winter holidays – big waves, empty beaches & cosy pubs

I’m not sure which team I’m on yet, so I’ll be reading the comments very carefully!

📸 I know I’m a little late… but apparently it was World Photography Day! 😂

So I thought I’d take the opportunity to share one of my favourite photos that I’ve taken — Loe Pool on a frosty winter morning. ❄️💙

It’s amazing how different Cornwall can look from season to season, and I love capturing those quieter moments when I’m out exploring.

Another one for my “Not So Obvious Places to Visit” series – and this one is a little further afield, at around 75 minutes from Penty Myghal.

St Anthony Head sits at the tip of the Roseland Peninsula, and although it’s a little drive, it’s well worth the journey. You can cut out some of the miles by crossing the River Fal on the King Harry Ferry – which makes the journey part of the adventure. ⛴️

Be prepared for some lovely narrow Cornish country lanes as you make your way out towards the headland, but once you arrive there’s free parking for National Trust members and some spectacular coastal scenery waiting for you.

The views across the water towards St Mawes Castle and across the Fal towards Pendennis Castle in Falmouth are absolutely beautiful. 💙

There are lovely walks around the headland, with sea views pretty much wherever you look, and plenty of opportunities to stop and simply enjoy being somewhere a little quieter.

And then there’s the lighthouse… 🏠🌊

St Anthony Lighthouse became famous as the setting for the lighthouse in Fraggle Rock!

Now, who else can still remember the theme tune? 🎶😂

📸 A different perspective…

Porthleven has to be one of the most photographed harbours in Cornwall, but I thought I’d try capturing the iconic Bickford-Smith Institute from a slightly different angle.

Sometimes it’s fun to look at somewhere familiar in a new way.

I’d love to see your favourite photo of Porthleven. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a dramatic storm, a summer sunset, the harbour full of fishing boats, a hidden corner that makes you smile or just a special memory from your last visit.

One of my favourite day trips from Penty Myghal has to be the beautiful Helford Passage and Helford Village. Just 30 minutes away, it feels like stepping into a quieter, slower side of Cornwall. 💚

Start your day by parking in the large car park at Helford Village before wandering down to the water’s edge. From there, you can spend the day exactly as you choose…

🥾 Follow one of the many beautiful woodland and coastal walks.
🏖️ Discover peaceful little beaches and hidden coves, perfect for a picnic or a wild swim.
🌺 Visit one of the stunng nearby gardens, where Cornwall’s mild climate allows an incredible array of plants to flourish.
⛴️ Hop aboard the little passenger ferry that crosses the river between the Ferryboat Inn and the Shipwrights Arms. The crossing only takes a few minutes, but it’s a lovely part of the adventure and means you can enjoy lunch or a drink at either side of the river.

The Helford has such a different feel to much of Cornwall. It’s peaceful, unspoilt and wonderfully relaxing – the sort of place where you can easily lose track of time.

It’s somewhere I return to time and time again, and every visit reminds me why I love it so much. 💙
