In this latest video, I’m taking you around our beautiful little corner of the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall to show you some of the exciting plans we have for the future.

There’s lots happening at Gweek House, including our plans for a brand-new garden office, new areas for seating, improved vehicle parking and some lovely new spots for benches where we can sit back, relax and take in those amazing far-reaching countryside views.

I’ll also show you some of our latest tree and flower planting, all carefully chosen with wildlife in mind. We’re hoping to create even more wonderful habitats for the birds, insects, bees and other wildlife that already call Gweek House home.

New Video OUT NOW!

In this video from Gweek House, I set myself a challenge to refurbish my woodland bird photography hide for under £100 and get it ready for the autumn and winter bird photography season.

The hide has seen better days, so it’s time for a much-needed makeover! I get stuck into painting, redoing the hinges, replacing the roof and building a much better hood to keep my camera and lenses protected while giving me a clearer view for photography.

There are plenty of other improvements along the way too, as I try to make the hide more comfortable, practical and weather-resistant without spending a fortune.

Getting the wood stocked up for winter! 🪵🔥

I’ve recently added a couple of new STIHL tools to the kit, the Forestry Hatchet and Cleaving Axe, along with the Roughneck Wood Gr***de Log Splitter.

I’ve been seriously impressed with the STIHL Cleaving Axe. It made light work of splitting the logs, with a great balance and plenty of power behind each swing. 💪🪓

For the bigger, more stubborn rounds, the Roughneck Wood Gr***de was a brilliant addition, helping break them down when the axe needed a bit of extra assistance.

All in all, a cracking combination. Plenty of logs chopped, split and stacked, and the wood store is looking good for those cold winter evenings by the fire. 🔥

🍎🍐 **The annual fruit pick is underway at Gweek House!** 🌿

After three years of not being able to pick our own fruit, it’s so lovely to be back at it. It’s always a real family highlight and something we can all get involved in.

We’ve got some ancient Cornish cooker varieties that we still need to identify, as well as some eating apples (I think! 😂). The squirrels have beaten us to most of the cherries, but we’ve also got pears, plums, damsons and, thankfully, a good harvest of common walnuts that I managed to collect before the squirrels pinched the lot! 🐿️

There’s nothing quite like being able to use your own produce, and we’re hoping to turn the harvest into pies, jams, jellies and preserves over the coming weeks. 🥧🍯

Henry has also set up a little shop and is hoping to make a few sales over the weekend and into next week. We’ll hopefully have eggs for sale too once the chickens arrive! 🥚🐔

Even after a busy day of picking, Henry still found time to use Daddy’s drill to make some bug hotels ready for next year. 🐝🐞🌼

A busy day was finished off in the best way possible — with tea and cake, followed later by a glass of something a little more special for Sarah & me! ☕🍰🥂
