Some footage of a bamboo excavation we completed in Bristol this week which we understand, was planted by the previous 🏡 owner roughly 10 years ago. Roughly 20% of the garden had been consumed and was rapidly colonising more soil.

New owner had attempted to excavate by hand (which is extremely challenging to say the least 🥴), yet soon realised how robust bamboo can be. We carried out our initial survey roughly 6 weeks ago & at that time, the outcrop had been cut to roughly 12” abouve ground level. The plant had grown 12-18” in that time.

We will repeat what we have said upon many occasions in the past - whilst bambo can offer some privacy & has aesthetic appeal, unless you are familiar with what species you are planting (most homeowners aren’t) then in simple terms, just don’t plant it ladies & gents. ⛔️⛔️⛔️.

When established, the rhizomes (roots) are extremely robust 💪💪💪 and will exploit just about every weakness in most ‘solid structures( dependent on what species) often encroaching into neighbouring properties.

Give us a call if you have any issues with Bamboo, Japanese Knotw**d or require any 🌲🌲🌲 works ladies & gents.

The footage extends just beyond 2m & will illustrate just how difficult removing bamboo can be.

Looking for staff who can operate micro / mini diggers folks. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

As part of our ongoing programme in removing much maligned bamboo, primarily from residential properties 🏠🏠🏠 throughout The West Country, we are looking for self-employed / part-time casual staff to work with us. Must have experience of operating small diggers up to 3T (although majority of work is with mini-diggers).

You won’t need your own digger & we will pay you a rate of £20 / hour 💰 (not bothered if you are VAT registered or not) and you will be guaranteed payment of 8 hours, irrespective of whether we only require you for 1/2 day. We predominantly work in the North / West / centre of Bristol area on bamboo excavations for one day each week.

Any interested persons can send us a direct message. If you do have your own small digger then we can pay you a larger day rate fee to save hiring the machine locally.

Any takers ladies & gents? Please feel free to like & share. Thank you.

Update/overview of an excavation of golden bamboo 🪴 we completed in 2 phases during June/July this year at 2 residential properties 🏡 🏡 in South 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿.

Initially the homeowner asked us for advice on how to prevent the bamboo from growing any bigger, yet it was clear the plant had colonised such a large surface area and had encroached into the adjacent property 🏡. This caused the sandstone patio to fragment under the pressure from the rhizome (roots in old 💰).

Phase 1 was excavation of the clients 🏡 ✅
Phase 2 was removing the rhizome from the adjacent 🏡 ✅

Phase 3 to be completed in September/ October after the soil has settled (to ensure no rhizome remains in the soil). This will be relaying the patio on a full bed of concrete which our affiliated company Synthetic Green - Artificial Grass Installation will oversee.

Whilst there are exceptions, unless you are fully aware of the correct method in planting bamboo on your property 🏡 ladies & gents, then our advice is simple - avoid it!

Whilst we see the hybrid version every so often in The West Country 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 & South 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, this was the very 1st occasion I have encountered Giant Knotw**d’ having been involved in the w**d-control industry for 10 years. The only deflating aspect is that one of our technicians alerted me to it, having come across it initially last week just outside Swansea 😤.

We are told this outcrop has been growing beyond the boundary of several residential 🏠 gardens for over 30 years & having viewed it up close, it’s without doubt a very impressive plant (Dependent on the perspective 🤔).

Welcome to give us a call should you require a free no-obligation survey ladies & gents. We will repeat what we have always been clear about - having Japanese Knotw**d on a property is an issue you should address pro-actively, yet it is far from the ‘big problem’ it’s very often made out to be (some species of bamboo can be 100x more destructive 🥴). It can be controlled over 2-4 seasons via herbicide providing the remedial work is done correctly and contrary to popular belief, it will not undermine or damage foundations of a 🏠.

Haven’t posted for a while on The 📖 folks, rest assured we have been extremely busy of late. Last week we excavated bamboo from the garden of a 🏠 in South Wales. The footage is less than 90s long and is definitely worth your 🕰️.

Bamboo is neatly always planted along boundaries, yet unless the correct species or the appropriate route barriers are installed in advance, it is highly likely to cause serious issues pretty soon thereafter.

The homeowner purchased this 🏠 18 months ago. Our guess is that the bamboo had probably been planted 3-4 yrs previously. The homeowner realised the plant was growing through the gaps in the deck boards around Easter time & requested our intervention.

In summary, this is (was 👊🏻) Golden Bamboo, of the ‘running species’ and has spread laterally beneath the decking by several metres. It has also managed to gain a foothold beneath the sandstone patio of the adjacent property and has dislodged several of the slabs. Naturally this will have a big financial impact 💰💰💰 .

Given the panic that Japanese Knotw**d causes homeowner & mortgage lenders, we have long since ceased to be amazed there are no restrictions on purchasing bamboo within the 🇬🇧. Furthermore, the lack of advice (warning!) given by staff working at the garden centres throughout The West Country 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 & South 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 (in general) which we have seen unequivocally ourselves really is shocking. In reality, bamboo is without exception, far, far more destructive.

If you are considering planting bamboo ladies & gents, just do some research beforehand. To break it down simply, there are ‘runners’ & ‘clumpers’. Whilst there are slight exceptions to the rule of 👍, the ‘runners’ are the species that will highly likely cause you some issues. 🥴

Hello folks 👋. By now you’d have no doubt noticed the ‘new’ seasonal growth of Japanese Knotw**d. Just a reminder to our clients that May is way too early in the season to apply herbicide, assuming the ultimate objective is overall sustained control of the plant (in plain English, getting rid! 👊🏻).

Just like all contractors who have gained the industry accreditation through The PCA or INNSA, we have been taught to follow the science. That being ‘later is better’. As we have stated upon countless occasions (check out our previous videos), we do not start our seasonal herbicide application programmes on Japanese Knotw**d until July at the absolute earliest, whilst more often than not we wait until September (why others do so is a matter for them 🫢🤐).

At the last count, we have ongoing Management Plans on 438 properties 🏡 located between The Pembs / Ceredigion Coast 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 (overseen by our sister company - South Wales Knotw**d Removal & Tree Services Ltd) & deep into The West Country & South if Birmingham 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. We shall be in touch over the next month or so to arrange our visits, yet rest assured you are all on the schedule list. All we would ask in the meantime is just leave the Knotw**d grow naturally and leave everything to us. It’s that simple. 🤷🏼‍♂️

All our management plans are supplemented by either a 5 or 10 year independently written Insurance Backed Guarantee (IBG) which will appease 🇬🇧 mortgage lenders. We offer free surveys and we will always outline the options available to you if selling / purchasing a property or merely planning long m-term.

We will repeat what we have always maintained and make clear to our clients - having Japanese Knotw**d on or near a property is an issue you should pro-actively address. It is not however, the ‘big problem’ it’s often made out to be. It is easily treatable over 3-4 seasons and contrary to popular belief, it will not ‘damage foundations’ of a building.

We specialise in eradicating Japanese Knotw**d. We offer our knotw**d removal and treatment services in Bristol, Bath, Taunton, WSM across the South West. As knotw**d experts we also offer surveys, reports and certificates.

Some 🌲 & site clearance work of well-established dense brambles, using the remote controlled Robocut today up in Herefordshire 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

An excellent piece of equipment which will shred through the vegetation including wood up to 3” thick. What this machine can do in one day would take 2-3 members of staff several days to complete. It can also work on an undulating inclining / declining landscape whilst posing no risk to the operator.

Another bamboo excavation completed near Monmouth 8/3/23.

Circs are that the previous owner planted the bamboo several years ago, without realising it’s impact. Bamboo has long since started to ‘run’ and managed to establish itself directly beneath the concrete pour, laid as a base for the wooden decking.

We shall return as always, roughly 3-4 months following the initial excavation for a follow-up assessment. Any subsequent bamboo growth remaining will be removed.

Excavation of ‘Golden’ Bamboo in Bristol.

Conducted a survey on this property shortly before Christmas. Having been planted around 4-5 years ago along the boundary, the extent of the issue had been partly concealed, due to some rhizome ‘running’ between the actual wooden fence and the actual stone boundary / retaining wall 🏠.

The neighbours noted slight fragmentation on the retaining wall rendering several years ago and realising the bamboo from the adjacent property was gaining momentum (very rapidly 😮), tried to remediate by covering with several layers of plastic sheeting & earth / stone, which naturally had no effect whatsoever.

Fast forward 4/5 years - the rhizome had grown robustly and had exploited several fractures within the retaining wall, whilst also settling within / beneath the stone ‘slab’ used to secure the wooden fence posts.

Whilst bamboo can be aesthetically pleasing and helps with privacy etc, prior to planting several important factors need to be considered and addressed beforehand to avoid a situation like so occurring. Fortunately, on this occasion the issue was resolved amicably between the client & owner of the neighbouring 🏠, however this is not always the case 🥴.

Welcome to give us a call should you have any issues with Japanese Knotw**d, Buddleia or Bamboo ladies & gents. Our surveys are free and our client base extends from The Pembs Coast 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 to deep into the West Country & South of The Birmingham area 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

We specialise in eradicating Japanese Knotw**d. We offer our knotw**d removal and treatment services in Bristol, Bath, Taunton, WSM across the South West. As knotw**d experts we also offer surveys, reports and certificates.
