10 REASONS WHY IT IS A REALLY BAD IDEA

1. Everyone will have to pay the Levy, including Highland residents

2. It is not the type of tourist tax the majority of people would want

3. The total tax on Highland hotels will be 26%: 20% VAT + 5% (+ VAT) Levy

4. It’s an extra tax on Highland residents attending medical appointments or visiting relatives in hospital

5. Highland Council will be taking 5% of total income from accommodation (£millions) away from local communities.

6. Income from the Levy will be treated as part of business turnover for HMRC purposes.

7. Highland Council is not giving any real indication of how the money would be spent.

8. It will be complicated and burdensome for accommodation providers to administer.

9. Motor homes and camper-vans will not be charged if they are not staying on an official campsite.

10. The number of visitors coming to the Highlands is likely to reduce substantially.

If you don’t support the Levy, respond to the consultation survey by answering ‘strongly disagree’ to all questions.
