🏡 My mortgage application includes a survey – do I need another survey?
It's a question we hear all the time.
Many homebuyers assume that because their mortgage lender has arranged a valuation, they've already had a survey carried out. In reality, a mortgage valuation is primarily for the lender's benefit and assesses their lending risk, not the condition of the property.
A detailed survey is carried out for you. It can help you make an informed decision before committing to one of the biggest purchases you'll ever make.
Have you ever bought a property without a survey? Would you do it again?

Sometimes the most interesting conversations start with something simple.
Recently, we were looking through one of the original handwritten order books from when the business first began as Coombs & Co, founded by Matthew Coombs.

Holding a piece of the company’s history in our hands was a reminder of how far the business has come — built on trust, relationships, and a genuine passion for helping people with property matters.

Four years ago, the company welcomed David Ashdown, who is now a Director of the business. Together, the blend of traditional values and modern expertise has allowed us to continue growing and expanding the range of services we provide.

From handwritten order books to modern surveying solutions, it’s been an incredible journey — and an even more exciting future ahead.

A huge thank you to our clients, colleagues, and everyone who has supported us along the way.

📢 Landlords: the deadline for serving the Renters’ Rights Act information sheet is approaching.

By 31 May 2026, landlords must provide the official information sheet to existing tenants.

The document explains key changes under the Renters’ Rights Act, including periodic tenancies, rent increases and tenant rights.

Failing to serve the information sheet correctly could result in financial penalties, so it is important to ensure this is completed before the deadline.

What image does the term “Surveyor” conjure up for you? 👷📐

For a lot of people, it’s probably hard hats, clipboards, construction sites and spreadsheets.

So it’s been really interesting seeing the kinds of networking events being organised by RICS Matrics lately.

A group of surveyors at a rock climbing networking event probably isn’t the stereotype most people would expect… and honestly, that’s what makes it refreshing.
It’s good to see industries moving away from the traditional image and creating opportunities for people to connect in different ways.

Networking doesn’t always have to happen around a conference table.

Sometimes it happens halfway up a climbing wall. 🧗‍♂️

🧗 Last month, our networking event reached new heights during the Rock Climbing Social at Vauxwall East! 🧗 YC Lau has produced a fantastic video showcasing the feedback from the attendees, along with some inspirational tips for early career surveyors! Please follow the RICS Matrics UK, London ...

🍜 Did you know the name wagamama actually has an interesting meaning behind it?

The word “wagamama” comes from Japanese and roughly translates to self-indulgent, cheeky, or even naughty child — reflecting a bold, rule-breaking spirit and doing things differently.

That rebellious approach helped shape the brand when founder Alan Yau opened the first Wagamama restaurant in 1992, creating a fresh and unconventional dining experience that still stands out today.

After a busy period of hard work, our team enjoyed a well-earned lunch there recently — and the rice bowls definitely went down a treat 👌🍚

Sometimes taking a break, enjoying good food and spending time together is exactly what’s needed.
