Shrewsbury Town Council is beginning public engagement this weekend on the future Conservation Management Plan for The Quarry. A much loved 29 acre riverside park at the centre of Shrewsbury.

As part of this project, Berrys is proud to be leading on the engineering and heritage consultancy for the Conservation Management Plan, working alongside Camlins and the wider team to understand what makes the Quarry so valued and how it can continue to serve residents, visitors and future generations.

Our work will explore themes central to shaping the future of the park, including heritage, biodiversity, accessibility, events, play, environmental sustainability, flooding and long term management.

Join the project team in The Quarry at the times below to contribute your ideas and influence the future:
• Saturday 6th June - East Entrance, near St Julian Friars: 8am–1pm
• Sunday 7th June - Play Area and Coffee Shop: 10am–2pm
• Monday 8th June - Main Gates/St Chad's: 11am–8pm

The consultation remains open until Monday 6th July, and residents are invited to share their feedback through the online survey on Shrewsbury Town Council’s website: https://bit.ly/4fm11zO

Defra has confirmed today that the expected opening date for SFI26 ‘Window 1’ will be 30 June 2026. This is for small farms (up to 50 hectares) and farms without an existing ELM revenue agreement, Window 2 will open from September 2026 for all farmers and land managers.

Before Window 1 opens, a small number of eligible farmers will be invited to apply from around 18 June. This is to test and refine the application service in a controlled way, to make sure it’s working as expected before full rollout.

The SFI26 scheme information published today https://bit.ly/43OlUwl includes near final versions of terms and conditions which apply to all SFI26 agreements, the scheme rules, requirements for each SFI26 action and general guidance.

Please remember that the key to a successful application is early preparation, it is essential that:

• Eligibility is checked.
• Land details, contact details and permissions are correct.
• Digital maps show the correct information for the land parcels to be included in the application.

If you are unsure about any details of a potential application, please contact your local advisor or one of the team below as soon as possible:

Rutland County Council has reopened its Call for Sites today, this will run until Friday 31st July 2026 at 4pm.

Sites previously submitted within 2022, 2023 or 2025 Call for Sites exercises, or through the current Local Plan process, will need to be resubmitted or they will NOT be considered.

The council are looking for sites of any size with potential for one or more of the following uses:

• Residential use (including market and affordable housing, self-build housing and specialist housing).
• Commercial sites (such as retail, industry and offices).
• Broad locations for large-scale mixed-use development (such as urban extensions or new settlements).
• Infrastructure (such as health and community facilities).
• Sites for gypsies, travellers and travelling show people.

This Call for Sites exercise is unlikely to lead to an allocation within the current emerging local plan as this is now at the later stages of examination. Instead, sites put forward within this most recent exercise will go towards future Local Plan preparation and development.

If you have any land that you think may be suitable for development or need to provide updated information about previously submitted sites, please contact Lauren May on 07775 925357 for a no-obligation, initial discussion.

We are pleased to share that we have secured planning permission for 24,000 sq ft of new B2/B8 floorspace at Upper Battlefield, Shrewsbury, on behalf of our clients at Vulcan.

This approval represents a significant achievement for our team, given the site’s sensitive location within the setting of the Registered Battlefield, the range of technical considerations involved and the site’s position outside the Shrewsbury Development Boundary.

This outcome highlights the strength of our multidisciplinary approach. Congratulations to Alex Bruce for leading the planning consultancy and to Callum Bebb and Phoebe Farrell for their highways and heritage expertise, with architectural support from Anjali Biju contributing to the successful design response.

The scheme will transform the site, currently a fragmented collection of storage containers, into a coherent, high-quality commercial development. The approved design delivers a clean, linear industrial form softened by vertical timber cladding, with integrated loading doors and landscaped edges to enhance the site’s setting.

The development will provide modern, functional space to support local businesses and job creation, while delivering a design-led solution appropriate to its context.
