It's been a bit of a change to our energy use over the last couple of years. The oil-fired boiler was nearing the end of its life, and the service engineers advised us the cracks in the oil tank meant it would also need replaced within the year.
So we got rid of them both - boiler and tank - and installed a heat pump. We also put underfloor insulation and new engineered flooring in the living room, and the radiators were replaced with twin-panels, mostly the same length, to help keep the cottage warm.
But heat pumps can be costly to run. So we added solar panels at the start of the year, together with a couple of batteries to smooth out the power use.
It's running well, and the cottage is still cosy!
