My childhood spent exploring with my family!

If you sail on the West Coast of Scotland, you will likely be familiar with the work of Martin Lawrence, author of Imray’s Yachtsman’s Pilot to the West Coast, and former editor of the Sailing Directions books by the Clyde Cruising Club.

Martin illustrated his work with beautiful elevation sketches like these, which we’re delighted to share with you today. We love their simplicity, their clarity, and the sense of adventure they convey. Martin drew the two sketches of Caladh harbour himself; his daughter, Harriet, owner of The Chapel Kilfinan earned her pocket money by sketching the elevation of Buck Sound, and kindly provided these images for us to share as part of our Secret Regatta.
