Your dog has already decided.

The Old Barn, Heacham stretch, North Norfolk, UK. Self-catering. Dog-friendly. Minutes from the coast path walks that actually tire a labrador out.

I will not call it charming in a brochure voice. It is a proper cottage with a garden, parking that is not a prayer, and sand that ends up in places you will find in April.

Main beach ban still runs to 31 October. Old Hunstanton is the honest alternative. I put the bag in the bin because that is the rule, even when the logic of plastic lasting a thousand years still bothers me.

A few September gaps left for people who book like adults.

Some nights don’t need a screen.

Holt woodland, North Norfolk, UK. Yurt. Soft light. A bit of peace and quiet. Leave the phone in the car and let the woods do the rest.

And if you’re heading to the Sandringham Game & Country Fair today, it’s the last day, 10am–6pm at PE35 6EN. Dogs are welcome on leads, and afterwards you can leave the car park behind and sleep properly at our woodland base.

That’s what I like about Holt. Come back from a day out, get the kettle on, settle in and let the shoulders drop.

The Fair finishes today, but your woodland escape doesn’t have to.

The Peddars Way does not end with a medal. It ends at Holme-next-the-Sea, North Norfolk, UK, where the track turns to sand and the dog already knows which way the sea is.

Forty-six miles of old road, then this. Dunes. Marram. A kettle waiting if you have booked the last night properly. I have watched walkers arrive looking slightly surprised that the trail actually finishes, as if they expected another county.

We sit on the finish. Campervan, hut, or a bed nearby. September is not the month I push grass pitches.

I have a theory about campervan evenings on the North Norfolk, UK coast.

You do not dress for dinner. You walk to the beach with chips still hot, sit in the folding chairs, and watch The Wash go gold. The van is already the living room. Hunstanton is just the view.

I have watched this for years. Chairs out. Rug from three counties. Nobody performing holiday. They eat on the pitch and then wander down when the light goes low.

The thing nobody says is that the van is the holiday and the chips are the ceremony. We try not to get in the way of either.
