Frew Conservation Frew Conservation are independent historic building consultants and training providers

Frew Conservation are independent historic building consultants and training providers. We provide impartial advice and training to a wide range of clients, taking a lead role in advising building owners or a supporting role when working closely with other building professionals and contractors. Our experience with traditional masonry buildings, particularly those built of stone and lime mortar, i

s the focus of much of our consultancy work. We provide both technical and practical support for most conservation and repair projects. Services include survey and inspection, materials analysis and matching, technical specification, site supervision and quality control. Working in partnership with other specialist craftspeople and consultants, we also facilitate and deliver bespoke training courses and seminars to various organisations including Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) schemes.

We're delighted to be exhibiting at the IHBC Annual School 2026 in Newcastle on Friday 19 June.

If you're attending, do come and say hello. You'll find us at Stand 4 in The Map Room during the Day School breaks. We're looking forward to catching up with colleagues and meeting new faces from across the conservation sector. Looks like we'll be in excellent company with this year's fellow exhibitors.

Day 2: Coffee secured and heading into ‘The Essentials of Traditional Mortar Preparation, Performance and Use’ symposium at York Minster.

Yesterday was a great mix of talks, discussion and insight into the performance of traditional masonry and mortars. Particularly looking forward to today’s talks and practical demonstrations.

Plenty to take away already…

Any budding archaeologists?

⛏️🏔️ East Lomond Excavations 2026 🏔️⛏️

Plans are underway for the 2026 excavations on East Lomond, organised by Falkland Stewardship Trust in partnership with Aberdeen University!

Following the success of the 2024 and 2025 digs — which uncovered exciting new insights into the hill’s Iron Age and Pictish past — this year promises to be just as fascinating.

The dig will once again be led by Joe Fitzpatrick and Professor Gordon Noble, and will run from Monday 6th July to Friday 17th July 📅

We’re offering 3-day slots for volunteer excavators, giving as many people as possible the chance to take part in this popular community programme.
💷 Cost: £36 per person (includes all kit and training)

Interested? Submit your Expression of Interest form to be in with a chance of joining! https://falklandestate.co.uk/east-lomond-archaeology-dig-2026/ #

⚠️ The dig is always oversubscribed, so to be in with a chance, please apply by Friday 1st May 2026.

Good luck — and we hope to see you on the hill! 💚
