Welcome back to our page! This week we wanted to reflect on the many reasons you should pay us a visit at Westwood Barn, Kirkby Stephen, 10 to be exact! 🖊️

Our prices range depending on your duration of stay, from 3 nights to 7 nights. You can use your time here at Westwood Barn effectively and plan out your days and evenings for a duration that suits you and your friends & families.

Enrich yourself during your stay and why not get stuck into some of the Kirkby Stephen culture! Approaching June, there is an opportunity to get involved within the Yomp Mountain Challenge. A long march over open terrain for charitable causes, which leads us to our next reason for booking..

3) Prime location for avid walkers and hikers. 🚶‍♀️🥾

Following from our previous posts, the opportunity to take long haul and short haul walks/trails surrounding the Kirkby Stephen area are endless. For example: Eden Valley & The Poetry Path walk are both within a 7 minute drive radius of our property for the starting point.

4) Neighboring the most scenic walk spot, The Lake District.🗻🏞️

Famously known for its beautiful landscape of mountains, forests and lakes - the scenic routes are within no more than a 40 minute drive from our property. so would make your trip even more worth the while for a short trip or long week stay!

5) Pet friendly home! Up to 2x pets are allowed to stay with you at the property. 🐾

As photographed on our page, Bear (our black furred pom pom) loves roaming around our property and the surrounding trails! During your stay with us you’re welcome to bring two of your furry friends, making Westwood Barn feel even more homely upon visiting us.

The reviews we receive from all of our visitors speaks for itself, both within our guest reviews book during your stay & published upon the Cottages.com booking site (available to book today). A visitor from Northampton had commented how the home was “very spacious and furnished to a high standard. Kitchen fully equipped. Great location.” Another guest had commented how “the two bathrooms and separate toilet upstairs was great and well thought out especially when you are a family of seven.The bedrooms were spacious and the beds really comfortable, the pillows and duvet was pure luxury. There was also a good supply of games and books for adults and children which was a really nice touch. Would book again in the future.”

As previously mentioned among the guests that have stayed with us, the 4 bedroomed home accommodates up to 8 guests during your stay. We encourage larger party guests to endure the local landscape and the activities surrounding Kirkby Stephen during your stay.

8) Historic monuments significant to the area. 🏰

Kirkby Stephen is a market town known for a range of historic buildings, cobbled yards and quaint corners. One of its key monuments is Pendragon castle (a 16 minute drive from our property). Standing on a rise above a bend in River Eden, the castle is associated with the legends of King Arthur and very much worth a visit upon your stay..

9) Local bars, bakeries, pubs & restaurants. 🥯🍻

Although our home accommodates all with a wide space kitchen and dining area and a warm living area. Why not visit some of the local restaurants and bakeries for a treat! The Bryson’s Bakery offers traditional pastries and pies which is a great stopping point if you’re taking a walk through the town.

10) A child-friendly home with amenities & games. 🎲

Our home also offers a selection of games to keep your children occupied, we know that nature and countryside isn’t always the most exciting for younger ones. The children’s room comes with a PS3 along with a WII console and a mix of board games for the family too.

Hello everybody, we hope you’ve had a wonderful 3 day weekend & are looking forward to the upcoming week! 🗓️

The time comes where we are gearing towards even more bank holidays during the month of May. In light of this we wanted to continue to show you the beautiful excursions available on the doorstep of our property during your stay with us here at Westwood Barn Properties (Kirkby Stephen). 🏠

Eden Viaducts (7 minute drive from the property. 🏞️

As stated by the Northern Viaduct Trust “There are several beautiful walks around the Upper Eden Viaducts with fabulous views and an abundance of wildlife.” The viaducts are free to access and enjoy with various permissive footpaths with accessible parking at all locations. For historical context and heritage, the Eden Viaducts all formed part of the South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway network as an important part of its Victorian Heritage. Key trails for families and friends (close to the property) to be recognised would be the Podgill, Merrygill Viaducts and Eden river circular. A popular trail for hiking, running and walking but also a lovely environment to enjoy the solitude and more peaceful parts of the day. 🌅

Poetry Path (7 minute drive from the property) 📝

Alongside the wondrous Eden Viaducts, walking along the railway you can explore the Poetry Path where twelve large stones are inscribed with poems describing each month of a hill farmer’s year. Upon arrival a booklet can be purchased from the Tourist Information Centre at the small cost of £2.00, giving a full circle of information regarding the poems and information about the farmers year. The stones also contain small carvings depicting an activity from the farmer during that month. Taking no more than a couple of hours to complete, this trail is an interesting way to get your step on during your stay! 👣

Hi all!

Welcome back to our page, today we wanted to show you the variety of short and long walks in the surrounding district of our wonderful property, which are easily accessed during your stay with us! Kirkby Stephen is ideally located in the beautiful Upper Eden Valley, home to a generous number of scenic routes and trails.

As highlighted by the official Kirkby Stephen, Place to Breathe, Room to Grow website, the town is well-known for its ‘recognized trails and walks of various lengths enabling hikers to explore the landscape, villages, culture and history of the area.’

During your stay as an adventurous family of six, a hiking group or even an avid walker with a love for breathtaking views - there is a pathway or scenic route for everybody during your stay with us here at Westwood Barn.

1) The River Eden walk - Eden Valley (20 minute drive)

As the warmer weather approaches and evenings are becoming lighter, during your stay with the River Eden would be a pleasant walk not to be missed. Perfectly located no more than a 20 minute drive from our home here at Westwood Barn. The River Eden is an ideal spot for families and friends leading up to the summer period for picnics, open trails and bright views of the river stream. The Riven Eden connects as part of the Lake District (45 mins from location) with the highlands of the Pennines and flows up to 90 miles long!

2) Brough Castle (3 minute drive or a 20 minute walk from the property)

Another convenient walk that is almost adjacent to the property is Brough Castle, with plenty of leisure activities surrounding the monument. Brough Castle itself offers free entry on your visit and is open the majority of the year, with the ability to walk through the gatehouse and explore the ruins of the castle. Neighbouring the castle has the Brough Castle Ice Cream Parlour and Tea Room, with a small playground linked to for younger children as well as a small farm area for the public to visit! A spot to not be missed during your stay with us.

Welcome all to our official page for Westwood Barn Properties! We are owners of a well-presented barn conversion with fabulous space for families and friends and offering a good standard of accommodation in Brough Sowerby, Cumbria (40 mins west to the Lake District).

The home accommodates up to 8 individuals and we encourage larger parties with a key interest for walking/hikes and what the market town/surrounding areas have to offer.
