** Mould and Condensation need VENTILATION, VENTILATION, VENTILATION!!**
As a Lettings Agent, one of the biggest issues we hear about over Autumn and Winter months are mould and condensation. Both tend to come hand in hand and, let's be honest, neither of them are very welcome within our homes.
As a tenant, you can be proactive in preventing these either from starting or getting any worse.
1.Our tenants are always informed that it is good practice to ventilate the property they live in as often as possible. In winter months, I understand that opening windows can feel like you are heating up the outside and wasting much needed and expensive heat! However, the windows don't need to be open for long. 15 minutes a day can make a big difference, especially in the most vulnerable rooms of your house. If you have window vents, make sure they are open.
2. Don't hang washing to dry over your radiators, especially in the most vulnerable rooms in your house that are prone to condensation and mould. The warm air from your radiators hits the wet washing and creates a damp atmosphere. Which isn't good for your health or your homes. Where you can, hang it outside or on a clothes airer.
3. Using room dehumidifiers are a good way to remove 'damp air' from a room. It doesn't have to be a big expensive electric one, the cheaper ones which don't require electric and you just replace the absorption filter when full are just as effective.
4. Any mould should be cleaned from the area as soon as noticed to prevent spreading. If it returns quickly and has spread then inform your Landlord or Letting Agent ASAP. This is important as mould is hazardous to your health if you are exposed to large areas of it for long periods of time.
Please contact Houlty Homes, either through our page or emailing direct to [email protected] and tell us your rental needs and we'll inform you when properties become available before they are advertised.
